Did they fix ranged combat yet?

I heard that in a nutshell ranged combat needed work, as this game favors melee, now I do not usually play melee but I am starting as a fighter to get to know the game since they have a decent amount of skills to play with and dual wielding is always fun. But eventually I will want to play something more diverse and flashy so I was just wondering about this thank you.
