Mass Deleting of Read Mailbox Items

I know there are a lot bigger things to fix and add in DDO, but I'd still like to make a suggestion of having some way to do a mass deleting of read items in my Inbox.

I have a haggle-bard that I mail stuff to and after his mailbox has filled and the loot has been sold, it's kind of a pain doing a massive click-session to delete all the read items that the items came in.

Perhaps doing a system similar to Hotmail where there's a checkbox in front of all the messages and you have the options to selectively check individual messages, a button to select all read messages (not possible to delete unread messages in main Inbox), and then a button to delete all selected messages.

But yeah, not a very big deal in the grand scheme of things but it's one of those "it would be nice if..." sort of things that I think quite a few people may appreciate.

This will not be implemented for one very simply reason...

Shared Bank.


Buy the shared bank and you can transfer upto 20 items via the banking system. You also give Turbine money (hence why they will not implement a mass delete on the mailbox) and have the ability to trade bound to account items.

While that would reduce the amount of mailing, shared bank space seems to have far better uses and is too precious to clutter with vendor fodder and certainly doesn't have the capacity as the mail system does. Personally, I use it as the central storage location for epic raid/dungeon tokens/fragments, war trophies and inspired quarter/dreaming dark essences/shards so I know how many I have at all times and don't have to piecemeal them together from 10+ characters every time I need to use them. Not a great deal of bank spaces are available after those items are all in there.

But I digress as this isn't a shared bank issue.

This request really isn't changing any aspect of the game. I'm still receiving/reading a mail message and I'm still deleting that same mail message. The request is only to be able to delete more than one mail message at a time in the Inbox, similar to the option that the junk mail box already has. A convenience factor, comparable to the search option they added to the auction house. It didn't really change any aspect of how the auction house worked. It just made it a lot easier to work with.

even just on the days when I'm collecting my unsold auctions is tedious enough.

The time it takes to delete the 100 or so mail's is one of the main selling points of the shared bank.

On a side note, the items you mention often disappear from the shared bank. Just search the forums for "bank" and "problems" or "disappear" and your see quite a few posts complaining about it.

Your best option is to use a "bank alt" and simply pop your BTA items into the shared bank and log him to remove them. How often do you need more than a dozen free bank slots to transfer items? Even a shroud run with loads of trash loot can be filled into the shared bank (assuming you sell your scrolls, trash pots and arrows on the toon running the quest).

how is shared bank sales going to have any relevance to the tedium of pulling your unsold auctions out of the mail?

Shared bank can be sold on its other merits, such as the ability to share bound to account items between toons.

easier to delete mail will have little if any impact on shared bank sales. but it will have an impact on peoples enjoyment using the mail system.
