View Full Version : Ammunition Farming?

How do you farm ammunition?
I usually roll up alts and keep the ones I will use (holy, anarchic/axiomatic mostly) and mail them on my main, while I keep 6 quivers: 1 deneith thin quiver as main for the silver/holy/Evil Outsider Bane arrow clips, 1 deneith wide quivers for the random ammos I will pick up and 4 generic thin quivers for the holy, anarchic, axiomatic and evil outsider bane arrows respectively.
While I'm not really a ranged character, I usually either use the +5 Arcane Arrow and/or wand Fire Arrows depending on what kind of quest I am about to do; usually the former.
I keep different + enhancements to quantitatively increase the payload of the said ammos, and fish the AH every hour or so when I am able for cheap ones.
I also usually run Vale + Reavers + Ddoor Shroud everyday, minus the Ddoor Shroud if on timer.
Is there any other way of improving the speed of reloading ammunition w/c I am not aware of?
PS: They really should make ammo drop in stacks of 100.

Thats pretty much all there is too it, though the +5 force and a flame wand should tide you against almost everything that you can't buy deneith favor arrows for.
*edit* farm threnal chain (long and painful) for the shrieking arrows.
Though I can get it down to 20 minute chain runs on my monk with super zerg kill nothing speed.

I would rather stall the group for a minute wanding stacks of fire arrows than go through the horror and boredom that is Threnal.

I pretty much pick up anything that is +5 with effect or save-or-die.
As far as capacities, Abbot quiver will hold 3x1500. The increased capacity of the store quivers is something to consider too.
I used to collect arrows back in the day of no quivers. That was a nightmare.

While I do understand the power of the Slaying Ammos, I figure the length of hoarding enough rounds to use them versus time spent using ranged combat is detrimental to be included as part of "sustained" dps department; I took me 4 months to collect up to 5000 rounds of assorted +1-5 arrows of greater evil outsider bane arrows but it lasted only for about a month; 500 rounds I believe were spent in the lobster because of my stupidity and lapse of awareness.
Which is why I usually just vendor trash them and prefer alignment arrows over racial arrows; they're much cheaper and in my experience drop more often.
The devs should really improve the quantity of ammos gotten from the chest or just simply introduce an ammunition creation feat/system. David Turner or any other NPC unknown to me that gives ammunition is not enough to balance the cost effectiveness of farming, using and reloading damage modifying ammunition.
Sigh
And yeah, I used to devote an entire bag as well just for ammo when my house D favor couldn't allow me to buy the nice quivers yet.
PS: While writing this I realize that improving ammunition drops would pave the option of crafting Min II ranged weapons for DR Bypass while keeping the ammunition bonuses.

My bank was 90% slaying arrows back then. Now I just have 1 very large wide quiver from the store that they get dropped into so I can always have them on hand instead of planning ahead.

The 12ish points of damage average from lightning-strike is still difficult to overcome. You would need a source of greater bane arrows.

If they applied the Cauldron and Mabar festival interface to collectible turn-ins, so you could choose your reward, that would make it easier to stockpile the correct ammunition.

One thin quiver with +3 Deneith/Silver/cold iron arrows...
One wide quiver with Slaying arrows...
and I use one back pack slot for Greater Slaying arrows (all locked and on hotbar)...
I sell the rest...
If they ever allow us to hotbar stored arrows in quivers, I'll get another wide quiver...
EDIT: I don't farm for arrows. Unless they are Slayers, I don't keep them.

That would be nice as you can get... holy, and banes out of collectables., let alone different metal types.

Ask anyone you run into to save arrows for you and mail them to you. In my experience, most people would rather mail you arrows and help someone than vendor them, if they dont already save arrows for their own AA...

I heartily agree with this. I run a melee ranger main and have a favorite alt with a repeater, but tend to stick to House D arrows/bolts. Mail them a bunch of plat now and then and people will be happy to dump all arrows unseen at you. You might even get them to dump the collectibles that return arrows as well (they will be even less interested in saving them). Might be harder to get someone in the habit since you need to clean those out more rarely.

I had an idea to help regarding ammo... it's over in the suggestions forum:
