Usually item + 3 epic dungeon tokens + scroll of dispel magic in the Epic Rituals Altar.

Be warned, this will kill any augments already placed (these cannot be saved).

I'm not sure you need the scroll anymore as that was a temporary solution a while back. Try it with just the dungeon tokens and the item.

I just logged in and tried to upgrade an epic souleater using everything I could think of but also was not able to.

Any help Turbine?

Yup, it fails.

I tried the stone of change as well but the weapon by itself does nothing and it wont allow epic tokens in the altar.

Wow, this is terrible news if they expect us to hunt for completely new components to make the new epic items with upgrades.

Just let us upgrade the old ones.

and guess what happend...

i give you one clue, its has no free augment slots...

yeah. guessed right, even my epic brimstone verge doesnt fit into the epic altar

which does tell me one thing: we cant update our epic stuff

a bugged shimmering pendant will always be one..

ITS BY DESIGN! according to gm's in game it was designed to be that way so all our old epic's are now junk and we get to farm them again YAY!

Confirmed - GM told me these are not upgradeable and If you already ground out your epic item then it's too bad for you. Do it all over again or go play another game. How ridiculous is that.

As a customer of Turbines for the last 10 years I can only advise you not to hold your breath.

I predict that those with the power to change/fix it will continue to ignore it and it will slowly fade into obscurity. I wish that worked in all aspects of life as I'd never have to take the trash out again.

i paid 300k for the scroll, run the quest a dozenz of times for the seal.
at least i quickly got the shard, heh, even still have one left...

I had to turn my winters wrath into an essence before I could upgrade it. Is that destroying it? I dont know..

You don't have to destroy it. Exclusive just means you can only be carrying one. Put the old one in your bank and start farming for your new one.

The devs intentionally don't make them upgradable. This isn't a bug or anything like that. Just ask everyone that has one of the old dreamspitters.

I'm not sure I agree that this isn't a bug but i'm still undecided. It currently appears to be by design but the above statement can't be true as the official stance on previous epic item changes have been hit and miss.

For example as mentioned previously, I did not have a choice on my prepatch esos changing so they have the ability to replace existing item statistics as they should have done here across the board. I was able to upgrade my existing epic wolf whistle when they upgraded it by using the epic altar. I believe there were more recent desert item changes when I was on hiatus which weren't upgradeable.

For something like the dreamspitter where thousands upon thousands of them exist, I can understand not allowing upgrades to them I suppose. Epic items on the other hand take more than 15 minutes and a bit of luck to acquire. I just can't understand the reasoning of not allowing the upgrades if it is by design but I'm not a MMO psychology expert.

old dreamsplitters are just that old RAID loot easily gotten farming a joke of a raid
epic items require mass farming of scrolls seals shards

what about all the ESOS and desert items? they all got changed they didnt get to keep they're prenerfed sos's

Best part? I'm gonna start farming tonight to fix some of these, two weeks from now, after I've farmed them up, someone is going to say, "Oh, you know, you are right. We'll just add this line of code here and... MAGIC! You can now upgrade your old items. Sorry if you already have, but at least you know have 2!"

NEW: Epic Souleaters obtained prior to Update 8 can't be upgraded to the newer version.

This is my first time seeing that list today so I can't say if it was there previously or not, but it's good news that they do intend to let us upgrade current weapons. I'm not sure what it means for upgraded items in the current release notes which aren't souleater though.
