Now, I have seen a few posts with people saying that Helf's with the Dilettante: Cleric racial feat don't need to make UMD checks and can cast Harm/Heal scrolls without a roll. But, if you read the ability, this isn't true. They only count as a level 1 cleric, which makes them 7 levels short from casting the spell without a check, giving a HElf wizard casting harm only a 35% chance to use the scroll. This seems EXTREMELY useless, even with lower level heal spells. Why blow money and precious seconds trying to cast a scroll that only has a 65% chance of working? Doesn't using pots make more sense?

Or am I missing something entirely here?

I ask because I, too, am interested in doing a Human or HElf necromancer, and am just looking at all the options.

Once the next update goes live with the aditional HElf dilettante enchancement it will be possible to count as a lvl 10 char of that class. Thus a char with the full enhancement will have I believe 95% chance to cast heal/harm scrolls.

Now that is sexy... so a half-elf might be just the thing...

As you said, the dilletante feat will mark you as a level 1 cleric and thus Level 1 cleric spells scrolls can be used without failure. I wouldn't rcommend using high level cleric scrolls as that's rather a waste of money. On the other side you have access to all cleric wands and you have to just meet the character level restriction to use these wands.
