The Festivult season is almost upon us! What is Festivult you ask? The Festival of the Twelfth Moon, or "Festivult" as it's fondly referred to, is an annual holiday celebration in DDO Unlimited!

Get a Head Start on Festivult!

Beginning today, and throughout the holiday season, every treasure chest in the game has a chance of dropping “festival coins” in addition to the usual treasure! Whether the chest is in a free dungeon or an adventure pack, there is equal opportunity for coins! There are three types of coins: copper, silver, and gold. Copper is the most common festival coin, while gold is the most rare!

In Update 8, the Jester of the Festivult will arrive to kick off the annual Festivult celebrations! The Jester is a disguised "friend of the Coin Lords." Nobody knows the true name of this fellow, but he can easily be identified by his colorful garb and dwarven stature. He will exchange festival coins for gifts crafted specially for the season from House Ghallanda and House Cannith! Once Update 8 arrives, you can bring your festival coins to the Jester of the Festivult, and he will give you a random gift from his festival bag of holding!

Three Copper Festival Coins will give you a chance to get:

A Black Abishai Gingerbread Cookie*
A Fernia, the Sea of Fire Jelly Cake
An Irian, the Eternal Day Jelly Cake
A Lamannia, the Twilight Forest Jelly Cake
A Mabar, the Endless Night Jelly Cake
A Risia, the Plane of Ice Jelly cake
A Shavarath, the Battleground Jelly Cake
A Syrania, the Azure Sky Jelly Cake
A Thelanis, the Faerie Court Jelly Cake
A Storm Reaver Gingerbread Cookie
A Cupcake
A Lump of Coal
A Sunflask
A Festival Twig

Two Silver Festival Coins will give you a chance to get:

A Red Abishai Gingerbread Cookie*
A Blue Abishai Gingerbread Cookie*
A Green Abishai Gingerbread Cookie*
A Daanvi, the perfect Order Jelly cake
A Dal Quor, the Region of Dreams Jelly Cake
A Dolurrh, the Realm of the Dead Jelly Cake
A Kythri, the Churning Chaos Jelly Cake
A Velah, the Red Dragon Gingerbread Cookie
A Queen Lailat, the Marilith Gingerbread Cookie
A Beholder Gingerbread Cookie
A Warforged Titan Gingerbread Cookie
A Black Abbot Gingerbread Cookie
An Arraetrikos, the Pit Fiend Gingerbread Cookie
A Suulomades, the Horned Devil Gingerbread Cookie

One Gold Festival Coin will give you a chance to get:

A White Abishai Gingerbread Cookie*
A Xyzzy, the Hound of Xoriat Cookie
A Xoriat, the Realm of Madness Jelly Cake
A Hezrou Gingerbread Cookie
A Succubus Gingerbread Cookie

*Note that if you consume all the colors of Abishai Gingerbread Cookies, you'll be in for an extra tasty treat!

There is also a very small chance that the Festival Jester will give you an exceptional gift in exchange for your coins, but what those gifts might be you'll just have to wait and see! Each gift does something special and we know you will love what our artificers and cooks have crafted for you this Festival Season!

The planes are vast and mysterious, and we can never predict how their alignment will impact the magically imbued gifts of Festivult. Each year the Festivult gifts are imbued with a different magical power depending on what planes are in alignment. So if you have some left-over goodies from Festivults past, beware, friends - those treats may not bring the same effects as before! Be sure to store your Festivult goodies in the all new Cookie Jars, available in the DDO Store, and who knows what they'll do next Festivult!

Festivult Begins in Update 8!

Once the festivities have started, the Jester of the Festivult can be found in the following house wards, floating above on his festival jumping challenges:

The Harbor atop the Leaky Dingy Tavern
House Phiarlan in the Livewood Theater
House Jorasco near Coldwake Pond
House Deneith to the west of the Knight's Watch district
House Kundarak in Locksmith Square

Check your map for his location in these zones! You’ll be able to climb on the floating jump challenges to reach the Jester! If you aren't as sure-footed, you can visit the Jester in the Harbor, where he has made a ladder available on the side of the Leaky Dingy tavern to reach him directly.

So don’t wait, get out there and start gathering those coins, because the Jester of the Festivult is coming to town!

The Festivult Tradition

Since ancient times, the folk of Eberron have observed Long Shadows during these chill weeks of the month of Vult (December) -- a grim season when the power of the Shadow, god of the Dark Six, is at its strongest. Dire magic gathers in dusky corners, and evil stalks the night in a thousand guises. The Coin Lords have determined that the terror of Long Shadows must end! To this end, they devised the festival as a celebration to drive evil out of the city. Instead of cowering from the Shadow, citizens are encouraged to exchange gifts with their adventuring partners and loved ones. And by slaying the monsters who threaten the city's well-being, they may collect festival coins to demonstrate their dauntless spirit in the face of Long Shadows and the Dark Six!

Just a quick question:

For the 'special' items turned in via a rare gold festival coin reward, has the 'special item' drop list been updated to drop different things? Or is it still the same as last year?

Yeah where's the WF goodies!

WF are immune to disease, as well as any benefits from any +4 tomes, errr cookies you may try to eat.

Currently this is working as intended as warforged do not actually eat anything. Now if turbine decides to let DW40 become rewards for coins, that is their problem. not mine

How about cupcakes?

I know they're inferior to candy canes, but iirc they give no less healing to WF compared to other races.

Does this mean the "Great Eye" will not be intently watching certain quests, or are some quests more (or less) equal than others?

Remember kids, one does not simply walk into the Stormreach sewers...

This festivault, newbies in Korthos may find themselves with generous gifts from your's truly on the Orien Server. ;)

Also, I believe the Candy Canes were dispensed by Jack Frostbite, not the Jester of Festivault.

Are you sure? I recall getting so many candy canes from Jack Frostbite (as a consequence of my joining so many teleport groups for purple tokens) that I gave them to newbies in Korthos.

Maybe the Dev's/Admins decided to do away with the Candy Canes?

The Jester has been around alot longer than Jack. And in years previous he was the one who dropped candy canes. I've seen Festivult at least three times now(most likely more though I can't remember which winter it started) and I'm sure. I know Jack did too but the Jester started with them.

Oh my gods, Jack stole the candy canes from the Jester!!! DARN YOU JACKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!! :D

Since today is ONLY maintenance there is nothing to download.

And U8 will be Live sometime in the next 3 weeks.

AS I recall from last year, GOld coins give you the best chance at the rare stuff, but it is indeed possible from the lower levels.

Bronze has "Silver level" as a possible reward. Silver has "Gold level" as a posible reward. Gold has the "Super special loot" as a possible reward.

So you would have to Roll the Upgrade once.. or Twice. then still roll the Special gold reward ... THe odds are not in your favor.

I'm not sure the jars will be for sale before U8, and any changes in cookie effects will probably be brought in then as well.

Candycanes came from the jester for 3 years before there was a Risia Ice festival

its possible that they have been moved entirely over there as they were generally annoying **** during festivult (along with cupcakes and coal and twigs) that no one wanted

They've been running two or three per day over the past week. I've pretty much been checking the lottery once every few hours, just to make sure I get in on the next one. They haven't advertised them at all, so it's been easy to rake in a bunch of the gold ones.

Now to log in and turn them all in! :)

Well that's hardly fair, there's still people (me among them) who can't enter lotteries at all for some reason.

Originally, Candy Canes were dispensed at festivult, before Risia Ice Games even existed. Festivult 2009 DDO made a boo boo and forgot to include them.

The hue and outcry from the masses made DDO include Candy Canes in Risia Ice Games.

Also, if you were around long enough, you were also given a Candy Cane when DDO had a prolonged downtime a few years back.
