View Full Version : What is with the number of over controlling overly stubborn people on khyber?

My game play experience as of late has been extremely dull and otherwise unenjoyable on khyber due to the huge number of extremely controlling extremely sensitive players creating parties and then getting all wrapped around the axle over seemingly pointless things.
Example: Joined a party for a normal tempest spine run on my level 9 assassin rogue and entered the instance as usual and started running past the fire elementals toward the entrance where you would normally start the quest. Midway through the run the party leader says in party chat that I left ahead of the party against his instructions and as such was leaving to reform without me. Party leaves, I am sitting in the dungeon in disbelief before recalling and logging out.
If this sounds like something you would do, just take a moment and relax and remember that its just a game and not everyone is out to ruin your time and that by being so controlling you can actually ruin someone else's.

It was probably his first time leading the raid, maybe his first time IN the raid, as everyone knows you run past the Elementals and buff in the cave.

Question: Did you try sending him a tell with an apology explaining that you somehow missed his instructions and asking for a reinvite?
Question 2: You do realize that with ten other people willing to listen to a leader over something that was obviously so trivial means you are probably better off without them right?

ur example is a bit weak, since most ppl wait for buffs b4 runing throu lava, note not all got evasion and ship buffs, most likly the lead had some bad exp with ppl zerging leaving mobs and nubs behind ruining the runs.
but overall yeah, sometimes PUGs do get stupid

I would believe this to be the case. In fact, if the rest of the group was willing to disband and reform because of you, then, you were the problem. IMHO, it was bad form to just run off like that, really bad.

Your example is not the greatest start to the discussion.
everyone knows you run past the Elementals and buff in the cave.
See? One reply in.
Thing is, Tempest Spine is often the first "raid" that players join, and I think it's ill-advised to take it for granted that everyone knows the quest. Or indeed, runs it the same way you do. I'm more accustomed to "those that need fire resists stand on the left side, move over to the right when you have your resists". And then reminding the person who keeps asking for fire res that it's been cast on them 3 times ;)
That they had the rest of the group recall and reform is surprising, and seems somewhat silly to me. C'est la PUG.
You should have then gone on to solo it :P

Hmm. Every run I've been on the group buffed before running past the elementals.

It is Khyber, right? If you game there and don't expect drama you are on the wrong server.

Well, if I joined a party and then ran ahead of everyone without regards to the leader or anyone else I think it's pretty bad form. Tempest Spine is HARD to lead, and I've been in countless raids where folks get separated, dies, and the leader has a tough time herding everyone back together. In your example, the leader could probably just had a failed raid with folks running left or right and dying.
It might seem trivial to you, but if you run off like that it would undermine the efforts of the leader to keep everyone together. The leader doesn't know who you are, you could've been a noob and then pull aggro or dies halfway through later. Or another guy might think it's too slow and run ahead to catch up with you, and *ding!* And before you know it, all hell breaks lose.
I would think that joining a PUG, especially in a raid, it would be courteous to at least inform the leader before doing anything on their own. Haven't there been countless threads on people ranting at the inability of some folks to follow simple instructions and causing party wipes/failed raids? ;)

Just run your own. And run it how you want. Easiest way to get the type of experience you prefer. Unless you hate leading. If you don't like leading then you're going to have to go with whatever the leader expects.
And in this case the leader expects you to buff prior to the starter elementals with the rest of the group.
Which I must admit is the way most typical pugs I've ever been in work.
Now, if you're running with a bunch of TRs, the only thing that is going to slow *them* down might be the strength lever or the int rune. And it's a case of catch-up-when-you-can.
Seriously though, good form is you know who the person with the star is, watch where they are, and listen or even ask for instructions if needed. Don't just assume. You can have the funniest time with some of the stupidest and silly things that 'leaders' do this way.
I love pug TSes. They can be so randomn. I generally do a running commentary in guild chat during them.

You know, as a leader, courtesy and confidence go hand in hand. If that leader could solo TS, you can bet he wouldn't have reacted the same way. Even if you HAD died and the rest of the party wiped trying to save you, he would have sighed, collected up your stones and gone on to a successful completion. It wouldn't have mattered so much to him because be would have known he could get the run completed anyways. Like others have said, he was probably a little insecure, and so he saw you as a threat to a successful run.
Courtesy and confidence SHOULD go hand in hand with group members also, however. It would have been more polite for you to at least let him know first, if not ask permission before heading off on your own. A simple tell, "hey, I'm going to set off for the cave entrance, I don't need the mass of buffs that are being passed out, done this raid plenty of times" would have probabl avoided the whole unpleasant scenario.
As an example, whenever I'm playing Gwylans on my Rogue, I always tell the party leader, "hey, I'm going to run ahead and get all the traps.". I usually get a tell back saying "You better not die", to which I reply, "I won't", and I never do. That way everyone's on the same page.
Just a recommendation for the future.
