Create Undead?

I seem to have a problem with the spell "Create Undead", It seems the tooltip has changed and renamed it to "Abuse Torq"


Any comments?

I'm a little ashamed that i've never thought of this before. lol. Using the ghouls as a means to replinish mana. :)

There are 3 applications of Create undead. Maybe 4 if you are creative:
Torc/concord abuse
Killing pikers
Activating pressure switches when shortman-ing.
And finally, Mummy abilities.

All of them are old news. I would like for it to become...you know...a spell people use to get a temporary pet that fights enemies, but it looks like the devs like the torc abuse/piker killer idea more. Hurrah!

Yeah but where do you think all those loose undead in quests come from? :P

Wonder where's the animate dead spell.

p.s. Anyways, according to some PnP texts it is the clerics that get the most out of necromancy.
(see the necromancer's book, and is mentioned as one reason arcanes look into pale master too)
Thing is clerics innately control undead and thus not care about letting the spell do it.
(with control of powerful undead being difficult, so animate dead makes weak undead and summon undead is summon)

too bad it can't be scrolled (or rather, too bad scrolls can't be bought from a vendor). i'd be surprised if they failed even a single save against that DC (but then, i suppose everything rolls a 1 every now and then)

Scrolls of it are common enough for a wizard to be able to scribe it, prepare the spell and then abuse it; you could also pick it while leveling up if you really wanted to. The buck stops there.

Sorcs, clerics, favored souls and bards have a harder time, since every time you want to abuse it you need to burn one of the scrolls you have and scrolls can run low very quickly...and most PUGs are filled with people too stupid to read chat, listen to voice and understand you standing naking among a group of 4 ghouls after exclaiming "STAY AWAY FROM THESE GHOULS! DONT KILL THEM!!!!" means you dont want people to kill them.

well, no worries on keeping people away. i'll just cast sleet storm from a scroll a few times.

but yeah, this is great for my wizard, not so great for my sorc :P

Haha, cool idea. Sadly they'd last like 2 seconds against my guards and i'm not swapping all that gear for a bit of torc/op sp when the quests are all full of things to abuse already...

Yeah, i rerolled my toon and one of the very first items i recieved as a Torq in demon queen. I thought the spell create undead wold be cool, so i summoned the ghouls... sure enough, 10 seconds or so later they began attacking me, hitting me for 1's and 2's. I thought ," Hey, mana!" I mean, its nowhere near free, but its better than buying greater mnemonic potions from the AH thats for sure. :)

All i need now is to get concordant opposition again and im set! :)
