Hello,
I'm just starting to really get into this game and have 1 capped toon and 2 level 16's.
Right now I am planning on gearing up one of my toons so I will need to farm a **** ton.
From what I've heard having a biajillion alts is the best way to go.
As of now I have 6 character slots available for toon creation and am wondering
what class/build is the least equipment/item intensive that will will be viable and welcome
in end game groups.

From what I've gathered so far, arcanes are the way to go. However, I am wondering, if I go
arcanes should I go wizard or sorc and how do they do in epic content?

Thanks for your time!

Make a Bard Spellsinger, Cleric RS, Wizard Archmage Enchanter, Rogue GTWF Assassin, Paladin KOTC, and Monk Shintao.

Then you'll be set to assist any group's needs. The biggest part of the farming is running Shroud, which is old, easy, and low-level, so nearly any capped character who's breathing can make it through there.

Hmm, I would do that, but aren't fighters/ melee in general hard to gear well?
What I'm looking for is just straight up farming once I get flagged for shroud.
But thanks for the input anyways =)

Casters are extremely easy to gear, level and run. Most higher level raids will only take one though so that might be a consideration for you.

Favored soul or radiant servant would be a good place to start, or a WF caster or bard depending on the build you go with.

What is it you're looking to farm?

Thanks for all of the help guys!
As of now, I mostly plan on farming Shroud, as that is the only raid I am semi familiar with.
However I plan on moving onto Epics as I hear that seals and shards are BTA? as well as the tokens?
I have never played a divine caster, so I have really have no idea on the gear needed, but I've heard some
horror stories on how many scrolls/pots are needed for some epics?

Also, if I were to farm epics which ones should I aim for?

I've seen VON6 and DQ1 farms on youtube. I heard that Big Top got nerfed. OOB is a PINA (at least for divines)?

So the gear I know is needed for arcanes is just Superior Potency, SP item.
For Divines...Superior Potency, SP item...anything else? FVS or Cleric?

So the break down for me right now.

I have less experience with Healers, but I know that they are very welcome in groups. FVS = SP, Cleric = RS
Arcanes, I'm pretty sure I know the basics, but question is Sorc or Wizard? Also I hear that in epics they are mostly CC, so I should go Enchant Specced?

Make a cleric or favoured soul. These require basically no gear, and most of the gear you will want is easily obtainable. You will regularly see shroud groups waiting around 10 minutes or longer for a healer, you will have no trouble getting in. Healers are usually in high demand for epics as well for farming shards and seals.

Arcanes are nice for farming of epics, but require a bit more gear. Healer is definitely the easy button.

Bards are also in high demand by competent raid formers, but lets be honest, not everybody forming a raid party is competent. A melee bard requires a decent amount of gear, a spellsinger can do their job naked.

* edit, I didn't notice your further questions

If you play your devine correctly you shouldn't require a lot of resources. People are more than happy to donate potions to you if you inform them that you don't have a lot of resources.

You should farm the epics that drop shards and seals for items that you want :)

Superior potency and SP items for sure. Make yourself survivable by boosting your HP, look for lore items that will increase your potential to crit, and of course boost your spell casting stat with exceptional wis/int/cha (whatever is applicable to your class).

For arcane enchant spec is usually optimal for epics. Wizards are usually the better choice here.
For devines, clerics and favoured souls are both good choices. FvS has a bit more spell points. If you plan on going pure healer, and not offensive caster, then it doesn't really matter much as it's a very straight forward build. Some raids favour the radiant servant aura, while others simply having more spell points will get you through.

Make a Barbarian, and look on the AH for a +2 holy silver or better two-handed weapon.

You don't really need much else at all to be a mediocre Barbarian, and groups almost always prioritize them over any other melee class.

Groups seldom wait a long time for a Clr or FvS, although it sometimes happens.

Am I the only one who sees a certain contradiction of terms here?

In today's DDO, no I see nothing unusual. It's easy to level to cap now, and yet still not be super-experienced or super-geared.

No, I laughed at that too. On the other hand, it's better than a 3 day old account focusing on farming endgame gear (and skipping content just to grind xp). The OP probably wants a build that can solo things most classes (a mediocre barbarian etc) can't - something like a Favored Soul, or evasion caster, etc. OP: check the builds and achievements forum and see what you like.
