So I was building a new Pal, vet status, still on the airship leveling, and I get a guild invite?!?!?!?! How the heck did they know I existed? Ya, squelch and the annoyance was gone but still, that is just crazy sad.

the whois function?

that would be my guess, probably looking at the whois list and doing random invites t anyone without a guild attached.

they did a search in the WHO list, levels 1 only, filter by guild.
