Since the surname of a toon isn't used in defining anything in this game it should be a free change IMO. i wanted to change mine after a couple of months but i wasn't going to pay $10 for it. first name maybe, surname...not a chance.

Okay, OP made me go look. Nothing on Premium Services page, nor Llama release notes mention anything new regarding our surname issues.

Now to nudge an already long dead horse --

The /changesurname command has been listed on the /help list for a long long time, so at some point it was supposed to be available.
The premium description mentions, 'maybe your character has gotten married' - alluding to the relatively obvious intention to change a surname.
(See other threads for discussions/musings/guesses on what keeps it from being available.)

Changing either first name or last name requires a tech to manually go hunt the name and change it. Therefore, would be a Premium Service, and require payment.


I'm okay with folks deciding not to use a service for whatever reason they deem applicable. Keep in mind before any of ya even say it "takes away dev time from..." whatever. Name changes would fall under the Database Admin side, and have little or nothing to do with the code-monkey/design/artwork/etc side of the shop.


I'll continue standing in the line with the folks waiting for the option to change a surname on a character, happy to pay the tech that $10 for their time. :)

That's interesting; when I wanted my surname removed I wasn't charged at all. I had asked to make sure. I also had a sceenshot incase I was charged and lied to.

This is exactly what I was alluding to; after having a kindly GM append the surname to my character (for free), I was a little dismayed to discover another expected me to file an official namechange via the Premium Services system. It's a surname, it's not like it's used internally. Throw us a bone.
