I have a Rogue 6/Fighter 4 character that I have built specifically to specialize in using repeating crossbows. However, the **** thing keeps locking up!

Sometimes it only fires twice per reload, sometimes only once.. sometimes it just makes a click and nothing happens. Very frustrating when a Troll Chieftan is running at you with a big club!

The thing is, the reliability of the weapon seems to be dependent upon the location I'm using it. If I'm at Searing Heights... no problem, works like a charm. If I'm in Sorrowdusk Isle.. I get about half as many shots as I should. That just doesn't make sense.

Is there some trick to making it shoot correctly? Is it just a broken weapon? Should I just delete the character? Is this an issue with my current Base Attack Score? I don't remember having this issue at lower levels. Will it work again when I get my BAB higher?

I got Rapid Shot, Rapid Reload, Point Blank, Dodge, Mobility, Shot on the Run and the free Light Repeating Crossbow proficiency coming from have the Mechanic prestige class. I planned on taking Kensai with the fighter levels when I reached fighter level 6.

Have you been using the lubricating oil which you can purchase from the DDO store?

That will fix the problem.

This is a known bug that they're working on.

I have a Rogue Mechanic who is suffering from the same problem, so we're in the same boat. Hang onto your character, and hopefully we will see a fix soon. I've been playing around with melee and other ranged stuff on my toon while I wait.

LOL @ the lubricating oil comment! I will put my repeater into the Stone of Change with an Oil of Serious Repair, and see if that works! :)

Ok, thanks. Is this an issue that has always existed, or just recently?

I had issues with shots that didn't register four years ago. I don't know how the nature of the problem has changed, but it has been around in some form since then.

I'm actually not certain, as I've only been using a repeater in DDO for a few weeks.

In reading a repeater crossbow thread in the Update 8 test server forums, it was noted that having your character stand still while firing tends to help a lot. That's what I've been doing in order to get all of my shots off. A dev posted to that thread, so this bug is definitely something that the devs are working on.

I'll try standing still, but that really defeats the purpose of taking Shot on the Run, which requires 2 feats as pre-requisites. I'm trying to turn my DDO experience into something like Doom... is that too lofty a goal?

I read on the beta 8 server thread that tumbling might affect the repeating crossbow reliability. I went to Ataraxia, where I had had problems before and made sure never to tumble. Wah lah. It worked great! Couple times it misfired, but all in all, WAY better performance.

Maybe someone can repeat this experiment. It may be that areas I experience issue with the repeating crossbow were also areas I tended to use tumble often. Searing Heights, where I had little issue.. isn't a place I used tumble.
