I am in the process of building a Healing Cleric but also be able to wade in and help out when needed.
I have chosen one of the new Half Elf Races
Stats at the momnent at level 5 ready to go level 6 are:
Strength 22 + 4
Dex 10
Con 14 + 2
Int 9
Wis 19 + 3
Char 8 -1

Not bad but stats are are only so deep.
What feats? What are you putting your lvl ups into..are you putting skill points into concentration instead of heal?
What is your focus for the build other then helping with melee dps?
Healing isn't a focus its a clever trap made by the man to keep us divines down.

Diehard is kind of junk. Maybe good in the early levels, but once you start getting hit for 70-90 point crits, the odds of it stabilizing you are next to nothing.

As far as i know there are 3 kinds of clerical types.
Warpriests:
Pros: moderate melee, moderate casting.
cons: low defence
Battle clerics
Pros: High defence, ac, saves, and high casting.
cons: average / poor melee capability
Healers:
Alot of kinds, but in total:
Pros: high casting,
Cons: alot of things. dependant in build.
What do you wish to accomplish?
Soloing: go for Valiance build which can be found Here (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=164323)
if you want some decent melee, check out nick_robinsonchia build which can be found here (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=279272)
for Ac. i wrote an guilde some while back Here (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=282020)
as for healers, cant help you, too much to cover.

Gotta hit ya here healer is not a cleric build.
3 Different kinds all it all depends on the player skill
Offensive Caster-Use of Crowd Control/Damage spells such as Blade Barrier, Greater Command, Comet fall. Helps to make sure everyone stays up. Can have Ok Melee. High Wisdom, avg str, good con
Melee Divine-Basic Melee/Buff toss heals when needed, focus on str dump wis(just enough to cast), depending on build ya might need dex, and of course a good con
The Hybrid-My favorite type but it takes the gear to pull it off you do the best of both Offensive Casting and Melee.
Healer is not a build, say it with me Healer is not a build....its a waste of a slot.
Redscab you havn't told us your focus yet but it does sound like you want a melee divine.
as Erik said the Valiance build is great there are many ways you can go as a divine melee to me. Few build toss outs
Or as you are going Pure cleric and using the Helf feat to gain Prof with the right gear and feat focus you can be more as a Hybrid.
18/2-the 2 can be monk(or rogue if ya dont have monk), or fighter.
17/2/1-2 is either monk or rogue, the 1 is fighter
You tell us what you want as a final cleric and we will tell ya how to do it.

I'd avise going for 17 levels of cleric - it's just a better way to go for raiding!
4 of your feats MUST be: Max, Emp Heal, Quicken, Extend. You'll need those for your BB and your radiant servant pre.
I'd probably re-roll based on what you're told us so far!

If you are wanting to be the " main healer cookie " .. (yawnage..) you will need access to " Mass Heal " spell and quicken feat.
So that determines the minimum Cleric levels you can take because mass heal is a level 9 spell, but will also have a decent amount of spell points.
I like the burst healers ( excellent for 6 man epic runs who already have a dedicated " healer " )
Tactics : Your in the thick of it, you can combat buff the main dps group, mass protect spam ( for end bosses that do elemental damage ), you can burst heal ( tier 1 healing aura, and also have a tier 2 healing aura running ).
16Cleric/2monk/2fighter Half orc
Max strength, charisma 12 +2 tome gives you Divine might1 ( TR'ed you can go to 14 and get DM2) as much constitution as you can get, rest are dump stats. Level ups in strength.
You have over 500hp
You have 1000 spell points
Evasion in light armor ( DT leather @ 16 with Ice Guard sovereign rune )
Good saves with Holy aura spell and buffs
Greensteel LightningII Greataxe gives me crits of 230-250 fully buffed @ titan gloves, 600+ when axe procs.
Very fun to play, great for epic bosses and really takes the pressure off a main healer.
No more drinking restore pots or the poor healer trying to alternate through spells to remove effects or freaking out because the mass heals on cool down, or healers been comet falled or aggro tagged and party just got hit with an epic fireball... cause you will pop your heal bursts and prots, raise dead on the healer if ever needed, spot heal crit for over 1600hp... it's a sweet deal that works well.
You have a ton of feats to work with, 2HF feat line is easier to set up as 2WF requires lots of dex. You will have over 36 strength at 20 easily with basic gear.
The 16/2/2 builds been around for a while, half orc has just made it really shine. :D
