View Full Version : WF Wizard Starting Stats

Been trying to roll a WF with the plan to go AM for a better crowd control.
I am not sure if I should go max Con and Int like so:
Str: 8
Dex: 8
Con: 20
Int: 18
Wis: 6
Cha:8
Or lower Con to 18 and then spend the remaining points in Str or perhaps something else. I am just not sure I need any other stats but then again I never played a Wizard before.
Any comments are welcome.
Thanks!

Wouldn't claim to be an expert by any reach - my WF wizzy is only lev 4 - but I would drop CON a little and put points into STR. The extra carry weight will be handy, and the ability to fall back on melee weapons at the early levels is also useful. While HP are really important for all characters, you shouldn't be tanking and if you're CC orientated you will have a lot of ways to stop mobs from hitting you and a WF wiz can self-heal non-terminal damage. Those two points of CON are probably not worth it.

is the above a 34 point build, or did you just forget about the penalty to charisma as well?

Ok, so I rolled WF Wizard with these stats as per a friend's advice:
Str: 14
Dex: 8
Con: 18
Int: 18
Wis: 6
Cha:6
But I can't help but feel like my strength is too high. I mean its nice in the harbor, but really how helpful will it be after level 8 or so. I am not going to melee much, will I?
Perhaps lower strength and increase Wis to 10 for the saving throws?
Or just go 20 constitution and be done with it :)
Too many choices!

Keep in mind WF are naturally immune to many of the effects that a will save would help against.

8 STR is enough.
Just be sure you always have Lesser Restoration pots with you (in case of enfeeblement). Also +2 extra STR from Rage is nice (be sure u have that spell).
If you feel you don't have enough STR on higher levels you can always equip +6 STR gloves or bracers. I haven't needed them, though.

Except for stat damage protection (enfeeblement) and carry weight, why would a wizard need higher strength in higher levels?

well, here's the thing: what else are you gonna spend it on?
dex? kinda pointless, really.
con? well, you could, it's already sky-high though.
int? should already be maxed.
wis? those effects which you are not immune to inherently you will likely be made immune to via buffs anyways.
cha? well, i guess this will make you resistant to cha drain. but strength makes you resistant to strength drain, *and* adds to melee capacity for the low levels, *and* adds to your autocrit damage when you hold stuff and move in to beat it to death with your dual greensteel heavy picks.
besides, you're packing around 100 pounds in material components, probably at least that much in scrolls and potions, and who knows what random loot from the chests... plus, if you're like me, you'll have a lot of collectables to pack around.
