View Full Version : Most plausible reason I've heard so far
So far we've seen many theories as to what was the mysterious 'exploit worthy of ban' of the Mabar festival, most of which have been deleted by now.
From what I've read, I believe the glitch in question is related to login off/DCing/login in in the summoning room, which apparently would sometimes make you changes instances. In doing so, presumably you could end up winning more than one dragon scale per dragon event.
Now, as most others, I was not aware of this. But, as I would speculate, their script to find the culprits of this exploit checked (WAI or not) for anyone logging in or out during that time window, regardless of their location. That means logging at the wrong time would set you up with a red flag.
Now, I could be wrong, but how else would some players have their mule account (used purely as a bank), who never even set foot into delera's would be warned/banned?
I hope this helps before it inevitably get deleted too...

I heard this as well but as I have a super stable connection and didn't even lose packets during the events, I think their logging must have just grabbed anyone in the zone (all instances) if even one person had done this. I only grouped for one dragon event and no one in that group lost connection.
It seems to me it would be easy enough to just search the logs for people entering the world in the event instance (dragon) and start your investigation from there...

maybe they know, in some cases, owners of multiple accounts due to email addresses and such?
if you live exploit you gotta be ready to die by exploit.. just remember to delete your credit card information from your account before you go free to play

Is there something wrong with having multiple accounts? Because I like to play with myself sometimes, and I would hate for that to be bad.

Apparently my main account is
Banned Until
11/12/2010 9:36:45 PM US EST
Haven't tried to login in-game yet so I've no idea if this is a forum ban or gameban as well.
It would be nice if a reason is given for the apparently random ban, via e-mail or whatever.
If this is due to the mabar event, shouldn't the bans have been handed out ages ago?
I wasn't aware that I had done anything even remotely bannable.
I'm not exactly the model Lawful Good player, but I always manage to stay out of trouble.

I did not log in / DC / change instance during any of the dragon runs, though I did log off from house J during a time that a spectral dragon run was open in the beginning as I did not have a key at the time to enter and was hoping the timer would still be there when I logged back on. So not sure that is the reason for the "B-word". (My main toon is taking a 3 day vacation as well).
The only action which I can even slightly believe would be seen as on the shady scale in KK's largely outdated post (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=172475) is the quick Delera's refresh.
However, considering that the quest has operated that way for as long as I have been playing the game, it is unreasonable to see how this could be a no warning b@n-able offense. That is like them b@nning everyone because they introduced a boss that is supposed to be extremely tough, but one-shotted by polar ray. It's under the normal game mechanics. Doesn't Turbine hold responsibility for such oversights, if they are indeed oversights at all? Was the shortcut in Under the Bigtop an exploit too? How about in Enter the Kobold? Or Partycrashers? Are speed runs exploits? Cause you actually get a deception bonus for not killing anything in a quest, so have to believe that is normal game mechanics too. I don't see how Delera's would be any different.
I can never tell with them what is an exploit and what isn't considering the strict no talking stance of Turbine (which I believe I have complied with by not giving specifics on anything).
I smell a class action for breach of contract (failure to provide services paid for).

I left the dungeon a couple of times one run and re-entered since I was the only person in a 12 man group in my instance. Never logged out during the event.

I wasn't a victim of this tragedy, but after reading all these posts about it...
I've come to the conclusion that the Mabar event took place on a server that was hosted in British Columbia, Canada.
With their new strict liquor laws, drinking one draught of midnight put you over the .05 limit and you had your licence suspended for 3 days!

I think the most reasonable explanation is that Turbine have failed to learn from their autobanning mistakes from just after Guild Renown introduction.
/sigh.

One wonders how many people used the Shared Bank account to transfer Spectral Scales/bound to account items related to the Mabar Event and got the e-mail.
I know I did.

I transferred scales and motes etc. via shared bank and never got a warning. I also never DC'ed during the dragon or anything. As I said in a different post that got deleted I spent the better part of the whole event farming and didn't get an email warning or ban.
The simple fact that someone feels like transfering bound to account items might be what got people warned is all the proof any sane person would need to suggest that Turbine really has to change their utterly ridiculous "if it's an exploit you'll find out via mass banning" customer relations policy's.
However that said, as I noted in another post that got deleted actions like this make me shy away from spending money on the game... and I will avoid buying more TP's for the foreseeable future. I've left enough MMO's to know that individual customers are completely irrelivant to MMO companies... As Customer you must do what is right for your own self respect... I wont pay money to a company that has mass bannings as a standard policy (let alone a system in which they can ACCIDENTALLY be sent to the wrong people.)

Same here. No ban. I used hirelings, transferred bta items, bought motes, coffee, went up against Eternity about 12 times, went into Dalera's... all the conspiracy theories that have been bandied about so far and I didn't get banned.
So who knows what the search criteria was for the report of 'transgressors?'

I'm VIP and I sure won't be canceling over this glitch. In fact, I'm planning on purchasing the 11/11 point pack tonight.
I do think 100 free TPs is pretty measley compensation for the mistaken bans - it amounts to ONE DOLLAR at current DDO prices (it should be at least 300-500 TPs). But at least they are giving people who were inconvenienced something besides a trite apology.

well, i agree with stainer. autoban thingies dont send emails of investigations. period. i just think they had to bite the bullet, and take one for the team on this one, or take a blow from which recovery wouldnt have been easy. it was a coding issue, and ultimately their fault. in no way do i believe it was an accident after receiving investigation emails. an apology went a little ways, but by no means am i satisfied with this company. this isnt the first time the player is treated insignificantly. just saying
