Anyone know if there's a thread out there for this already? I didn't see one.

I just capped my Wiz and used archmage to boost my DC's to 38 for enchantments and haven't really had any time to test the effectiveness yet.

There are a few threads discussing this, but I temporarily can't find them (I didn't look too hard).

From my semi-limited experience and what I've read, a DC of 38 is dandy for Epic Mass Hold Monster. I haven't TR'ed yet and lack a Dreamspitter. My DC 34 and a *good party* gets me through Snitch and Last Stand. My Mass Holds sometimes get all the critters, often gets most/enough and sometimes misses everything.

Good luck!

My Bard is ~40 and lands everything fine. I think as you go higher you are really increasing your chances of grabbing stuff other than 'standard trash' - i.e. mobs with higher than average saves.

I've done epic Red fens on a necro focused poorly equipped wizard (guild runs only) with only 34 enchantment DC and mass hold worked well enough to get the job done. 38 should be excellent. I plan on giving my wizard some attention, switch to archmage and move foci to enchantment for doing epics myself.

Just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I typically drop an extended disco ball (or 5 for big fights) and cast mass hold on top of it, then spot hold. Works well because if the melees get too much agro they just run in and out of disco ball few times and go back to swatting.

Haste, rage, GH, and spot resists are usually the only buffs people want. Use protection from evil for greater command protection. Pack firewall for occasional use (like for ice statues)

That's pretty much all I do or that I've been asked to do by my guild when running these and they run more or less like clockwork. Occasionally I chug a mana pot when needed.

38 is more than enough for most runs, although I've heard (haven't run it myself) that the DC's in Epic Devil Assault are nastier than the standard.

There is no optimal DC. The more you have the better. 38 on a (pure?) archmage means you have a lot room for improvement.

I'd say that's relatively obvious on both counts. And while there might not be an "optimal" number there's certainly going to be a tipping point where a certain DC check is going to work well in most areas. Maybe 38 isn't it but that's before any bard songs or assistance so it's not terrible considering I have zero good gear on this toon.

I've got a LOOOOONG way to go to make this toon worth a ****.

DA was rough on our caster and Epic Chrono is even worse. A multi TR caster with DC's between 42-45 was landing maybe 30% of his holds on our guild run last night.

38 is solid. I'd call it the tipping point for "very effective" epic casting.

32-34 is the tipping point for "somewhat" effective casting.

The difference: 32-34 and you can be successful in epics and, with an otherwise good groups, will thrive.

38 and you'll start to hear oo's and ah's about the % of mobs the spells are landing on.
