View Full Version : Melee FVS Half-Orc?

I haven't rolled a FVS yet. Haven't even unlocked it, but I'm grinding that favor out at the moment. Yet, I'm really interested in rolling a melee FVS, but I hate WF.
Is it viable to use HOrc instead?

If you don't want WF you will be better off with a TWF 18/2 Elf Undying Court FvS imo.
You can roll a HO but taking a feat for a melee weapon proficiency and then sacrificing to hit with HO PA, as well as getting no FvS bonuses for the weapon is a large waste.

I can't say it's not viable, but the big advantage for Warforged FvS is that WF get enhancements for two-handed weapons and access to a faith that gives them proficiency (and then bonuses) with greatswords - a very nice synergy. Half-Orcs get enhancements with two-handed weapons but won't be proficient with any two-handed weapons except quarterstaffs since they only get access to the Sovereign Host (longswords) or the Silver Flame (longbows).
Of course, you could always spend a feat on a weapon proficiency, but melee FvS are pretty feat-starved to begin with.

You can also splash to get proficiency. Two more feats on a fvs never hurt either.

If you wanted to stay pure, I'd probably spend the feat rather than dip. Or just bite the bullet and use a stick.

THe Half Orc doesn't feel like great synergy. Not like the WF or the Elf.
The Elf is a nice move as you get racial weapon bonuses, FvS weapon bonuses, and automatic proficency with a weapon that is actually a good DPS weapon. With IC Slashing that thing crits constantly. With a bloodstone, enhancments, and TWF feats and PA you can be smacking the **** outta things. You are going to want to splash 2 fighter or 2 monk to make room for all the feats, but it's a solid build.

That he can and options are probably very good with a fighter or pally splash... prefered the pally I think... marshall weapons, a smite, some ac and keeps spell points. Gives up some dr and a spell but a pretty even trade - 18FvS/2Pally with pally taken at levels at 2 and maybe 4? Think starting stats 32 points 18 8 16 10 12 10 probably sovereign host in faith but utilizing a two-hander of choice... what you lost in the +1 to hit on faith weapon you gain a much more in H-Orc in options on the 2hander depending on aps.

you Can Roll A Ho
O.o
You can always make a HO that uses Longswords... Of course elves get damage and to hit for longswords from enhancements balanceing out vs the HO strength.

if u want dps go elf, if u want survivability u go wf.
if u are geared to the theeth u go dual khopesh with half orc.
those tiny points of damage of damage half orc brings in (wich also works with falchion in case u dont have epic sos) are simply most times not worth it against the survivability wf brings.
beside the fact elf makes the damage of both look like a joke wen they'r two handed fighting.

It doesn't balance the fact that longswords are awful weapons though.

No, but there isn't much synergy between HO and FVS.

WF is the best race for a melee FvS. I've got 34 base str hit for 50-70 base damage before adds depending on buffs, drop quickened maxed empowered spec party heals while slashing away with any greatsword of my choice. Insane DR endgame, even as a WF my bar stays fuller than the rest of the party.
The HO 20 base str is helpful for any weapon, but you don't have feats to spare on a proficiency.
You're already hosed as it is trying to make a healer fight good. I would take something with better synergy until the devs add support for this class/race. Which is probably not a priority since HO is obviously selling just fine.

Certainly WF is a very good race to try if you ever find yourself suddenly liking WF (and the best way to grow to like them is to actually try and play one :)
Having said that, I'm running both WF and a dwarf melee FvS. And the dwarf is pretty good. My feats are: great axe, imp. crit. slash, PA, toughness, quicken, maximize and empower. You could go similar route (although life without extend is hard...). The dwarf has one significant advantage though - I was able to start with 18 str and 20 con...
I am playing a THF 2 ftr 18 fvs with 1 level of fighter so far and this is the way to go by far. Theres no sacrifice to hit due to half orc PA over the twf version. TWF version is at -2 with TWF and half orc str bonus more than makes up for the rest. Theres a level 1 spell that gives +3 to hit and damage, and another spell that makes your BAB equal to a fighter of the same level. Add that to prayer, recitation etc, and half orc has no issue smacking mobs.
Started with 18 str 16 con and 13 cha. - still have roughly the same mana as a maxed wis cleric who took both mental toughness feats.
If they put the battle cleric PRE into the game for FVS and make it like warchanter where you can use action points to gain weapon prof. I would likely LR to pure FVS.

The elven FvS with Scimitars and the WF THF FvS are where it's at. There is all kinds of synergy with those two races.
The Half Orc just isn't bringing enough to the table on strength bonuses to offset whats being lost.
But just because it's not totally optimal doesn't mean it won't work or be really fun. A Human or Half Orc can rock too as a melee FvS. Play what you want. The stats/Enhancements/Feats differences aren't enough to matter if you know how to play your toon and are geared properly.

I suggest you go Horc if you wish to have a good Combat casting ability aswell to get good BB and cometfall
In the early levels you pick a THF weapon feat and later you can switch it.
18 str
8 dex
14 con
6 int
16 wis
12 char
put the level ups in Wis and one in Cha
YOu will dps far better than a WF and and will be able to cast offensive spells thanks to no weakness in wisdom and better base strength and strength enhancments. dont forget the extra powerattacks and +4 damage for THF weapons
A melee wf fvs wont be able to get strong bb or cometfalls wish Horcs will

Horc work better towards a Hybrid FvS then a Melee(I do have a 18/2monk that uses a staff that is fun)
Here is my build for a Horc FvS, granted its a 36 build you can lower cha and con by 2 points each and make out just fine.
