View Full Version : Lonely Relic-Farming Runs in my Future?

So I have a Level 19 who doesn't have the relics for Gianthold Tor. The wilderness area is max Level 18 for full xp.

No one under Level 19 is going to want to group with me probably.

So just a couple of quick questions.
1) How common is this problem? Or in other words, how small is the potential pool of people who would be willing to join me?

2) It might be a little silly to have a 19-19 level range on my LFM. Will the xp penalties be worse just for the Level 20's or for everyone in a 19-20 group?
Will anyone be impeded?

3) I don't usually have this problem. What does "impeded" mean exactly, anyway?

It's not common because most people far that at level (good xp in those quests)

It's not a big deal though, you should be able to burn through those quests on a L19 like they weren't even there (the non flagging quests might be faster than rare hunting for relics). (No one in the explorer at the same time of you will get any xp)

It might also be faster/easier to just farm stuff at your own level, where at least you will get XP too, and then sell the junk you find to pay to buy relics off the AH.

2) Can't Answer this one

1) Can't answer this one either.

Only one of my characters is level 14 and is too gimp to run gianthold..... :P

If you have a character that can solo the area easily, its probably just as fast to solo.

If you can't solo easily--you might consider doing some loot runs somewhere else and then just buying the relics from the AH with your profits. There are some great loot runs that will get you meaningful xp, allow you to put together a group of lvl 19-20s, and very quickly get you the cash needed to buy the relics.

Hehe, I meant in DDO wilderness terms.
Anyway, ok AH sounds like a good option. Lots of Relics on there for a decent price? (um..can't check atm) ;)

Lots of relics, check. Decent price....well, define what is a decent price for you? More often than not, prices are seriously overblown.

You can always get yourself a pocket player, cleric for heals or wiz/sorc for haste and go out to 1 area of the GH at a time to clear for chests. There are shrines around to use and they will reset every 15 minutes iirc, so that "may be" an avenue you can follow.

Might I ask which server you are on? If it happens to be Sarlona, I'd be more than willing to give you a hand on a few toons to build up some reserves for my lowbie toons.

If someone above the level range for the zone is in the zone with people who are level appropriate, those people will not get any credit towards any slayer/rare/explorer. So the "impede" is more like "completely halt in tracks".

You should be able to find some groups doing the quests in gianthold for favor, and pick up relics there. Focus on the 3 flagging quests, since those drop larger numbers of relics.

Or just pick up some in the auction house.

There are two groups of 2 rares that are relatively quick to farm solo. Very quick if you are a caster, you can ransack each pair in less an hour. I don't remember which relics drop from each set of rares, though it maybe just easier (it can mind numbingly boring) to buy them from the AH.

What server are you on?

1) How common is this problem? Or in other words, how small is the potential pool of people who would be willing to join me?

In the explorer area, you could set a L10-20 group for relic runs with the allure being easily obtained relics.
Another option is to advertise favor quests. At L16-19, there's still some reasonable exp to go with the relics.

2) It might be a little silly to have a 19-19 level range on my LFM. Will the xp penalties be worse just for the Level 20's or for everyone in a 19-20 group?

L20 doesn't accrue exp. In the Ruins of Gianthold, a L19 loses 50% exp, a L18 gets full exp, L17 and under receives 0 exp.

3) I don't usually have this problem. What does "impeded" mean exactly, anyway?

At one time, the presence of a character < L10 in a party in the Ruins meant everyone's progress was impeded, or 0 exp for anyone in the group. Same with a L7 or L16 in the Sands of Menechtarun.

Last time I checked, a few months ago, a full set of 20 relics where 30k plat on Argo's AH. We will see if the price holds with the new search function...

:) Well I'm a favor farmer so I got one toon on each server (2x on Sarlona).

Lots of good options here.

I don't know about every character, but I don't have much trouble with my rangers and fighters going in with just a hireling cleric at level 13. It's not as fast as being in a group, but faster than not doing it at all.

Each quest in Gianthold drops specific relics, but the rares in the wilderness will have one at random. Each rare chest will have -one- relic.

With all the time most folks spend XPing on gianthold quests, and the incidental kills of rares in the process, getting enough relics usually isn't a problem unless they use some of them to buy armor. Elfcraft is particularly popular with casters, for example. Burning 20 relics on one of those armors will often put you behind the curve on getting enough for Tor access.
