View Full Version : Are Stealth-Running quests still possible?

There used to be a lot of rogue challenge posts about how to sneak through a quest. I was wondering if this was still possible given the recent changes. I was thinking about making an uber stealth character to run some quests this way for an occasional change of pace, and personal challenge.
I was thinking about something along the lines of a dexer 13 assassin rogue, 6 virtuoso bard, 1 monk. This would mainly be a soloing character that I would use to find ways to complete quests with minimal combat; just for fun.
Which quests would be best for sneaking?

Well, good luck with that as getting bard and monk on the same character will make you unique. ;)
As to stealth. Yes, it is possible and on many quests. But you need to know that certain mobs are unaffected and others have the DM's version of True Seeing which means they know you are there no matter what your hide/move silently skill happens to be.

Assuming he doesn't get banned from the game for doing so.

He’s gonna go for a Half-Elf 13 Rogue/6 Bard/1 Barbarian with the monk dilettante feat.

Seriously though. There are some quests that can be completed via stealth. (Stealthy Repossession, Claw of Vulkoor and Monastery of the Scorpion come to mind.) Check out Mr. Cow’s “Diaries of a True Reincarnate” for the creative use of invisibility and stealth.

Thanks Quantum, I'll try to look that up.
Sorry about the monk mistake, I was in a hurry. I would probably go with fighter, and do a dragonmarked halfling, or a Drow with a barbarian splash. It was really not supposed to be a build critique, hence why I posted it in general gameplay. My intention was to generate a discussion about using stealth to complete a quest.
Sometimes it is just fun to play a rogue as a rogue.

You can use stealth in the majority of quests, but very few quests let you stealth the entire way without killing anything. I know I use the "invis and run" technique to bypass tons of monsters in lots of quests, especially at the lower levels, but anywhere you can invis and run, you can stealth past. Takes longer, but you won't get any alert.

We knew that, just had to give you a hard time about that bard/monk thing. :D
Three classes are synergetic towards the sneak approach: monk, ranger & rogue. All three have Hide and Move Silently as class skills with enough skill points to keep both maximized if that is your goal. They are also synergetic as build classes (the Exploiter comes to mind).
One way to speed up movement is with the rogue enhancements. Monk L3 also gives a base movement speed increase. So, carefully choosing your class levels and enhancements can get you a very sneaky, relatively fast moving, character.
