Hi All
Brand new to the game, started yesterday. Tried to upgrade my account to unlimited, but the address options are only for US, Canada or Mexico. What payment methods can someome from England use? I looked at the PayByCash, but its more expensive, not much, but I'd prefer to pay less if I have the option.
I know this has likely been asked before, but I've spent the last 20 minutes looking through the forums for information on this and I can't find it. All I found was PayByCash and that I can't pay by Paypal, which seems somewhat annoying now that the US servers have international players on them now.
Thanks in advance for any help and guidance and sorry if the information is right there and I somehow dumbly missed it.
EDIT: I have since found the information in the FAQ section and paid succesfully. This thread can be closed.

Fantastic that you found the forums already! There's a lot of vital information here, just ignore the drama.

This issue is very bad PR from Turbine, Basically If u live in the UK u cannot pay by paycash the only method avaibable to u is CC, and if u do select EVERY time u make a purchase, be it the monthly sub or from the store u will be chared at least £1.50, ive actually stopped playing because of it as im not paying that for every purchase, its way too much, Please Turbine add a paypal or some other way for us EU players to pay without incurring massive fees, tbh i would have thought this would be sorted before the servers went live, end rant

I personally lived quite some time in both the US and Europe and heres my 2 cents:
In the US, credit card is a very common method of payment. I thought long and still i know nobody in the US that has not at least one credit card. Its accepted, easy, popular and its somewhat safe. Thats why you find this method of payment almost everywhere you look in the US.
What alot (not all) of the US people dont know is, that credit card is by far not as popular in Europe. We usually do bank transfer, either by online banking or by visiting the actual bank. Another very commonly used method (at least in germany) is paying after you get the bought good per mail. You get the bill with the goods and then pay it. We dont use Checks too, but thats a side note.
For some time now, paypal has had a great success in europe, mostly because of ebay. its a relatively safe way of payment and used in almost every online store in europe (i`ve seen) now.
So i am one of these eu players, that have no credit card for above reasons. I never need it. The problem is, that i would have to get a credit card just for playing as vip in DDO or even get my toons moved from Ghallanda to any other server, since its a premium service that needs credit card.
Im not getting a credit card for just to use it in a game, so it f2p or bust for me. Thats until the payment methods adapt to better suit the european demands.
I would like to point out, that this is definately not just a Turbine issue. I trade alot between US and Germany because i get some Books in US that i cant get in Germany any more. I experience this alot but that doesnt change that there is an issue that has to be dealt with if turbine wants to really include euro players to their game. It wont be to their disadvantage because i think the motivation of eu players for paying is there, but theres just no propper way. yet.

Im not sure he can understand bank charges. I mean he did enter into a contract for a bank card and doesnt know what they charge him for. Instead he just posts up how Turbine is over charging him...even though Turbine is not who is issuing the charge.
Ignorance...it is bliss they say...and evidently not confined to any geographic area!

you don't need a credit card, my visa debit is absolutely fine.
however i did need to fax (!archaic much?) my details to turbine to get my card registered to my account.
once that was done though it's plain sailing...
yes paypal would be a MUCH better solution.

i think it was something about verifying my address... which is fine for all other paypal transactions i've made but not for turbine... maybe it's changed now...

Yup needed to be verified but that was very easily sorted. You should look it up how that works in the help section of paypal. Basically, all they ask you to do is to write off a few eurocent from your main account to paypal after which they return it and you're verified... only takes a couple off days. After that you just fill up your paypal with the amount you want to spend on DDO from your debit bank account....Done! Or well, it was for me anyway :)
