Just a quick question for those more knowledgeable in the second half of ddo (lvls 10-20). My wife and I love to play ddo together and aren't a huge fan of grouping with others. She is a level 9 fighter using a great axe splash dps style and I am a level 8 Wizard using an AOE nuke-em style with a side of situational casting (resists, secret doors, knock, etc) We typically run with two cleric hirelings (with an occasional purchase of a gold seal or two if the quest is hard) and haven't had a problem finishing up to level 10 group quests thus far. This is the second character I've tried in this set up, the first being a ranger/rogue. The Ranger/rogue was ok and i played him to 5/2, but to be effective with traps and chests, I had to sacrifice dps support. We needed more dps so I leveled the wizard. We've got a good dynamic going on at the moment with her group tanking/dpsing and me using aoe. I'm just curious how long this is viable, we've obviously hit a few quests we can't do just because of the minimum player requirements, but I've also noticed the monsters also seem to be scaling up faster than we are. So groups are taking longer to nuke.

So to the main question's are...
Can two people continue to quest all the way to the cap?

If so, is this class arrangement going to work?

Any suggestions to how we might optimize this set up or if another might work better would be appreciated aswell.

Thanks in advance! =D

There aren't too many quests that cant be short manned with 2 people. The dungeon scaling keeps the mobs at a reasonable difficulty. Id suggest, looking to the future, in yourself running a WF wiz/rogue and the wife running a WF dps build. You would be able to handle traps and heal the both of you while she grabs agro.Adding in a cleric hireling with dv's will help the sp pool for you as well as providing back up heals and rezz's.

Each of you should grab a cleric hireling - believe it or not they will do a decent job of healing you and are cheaper than pots/wands. Pick ones with the ability to rez and with divine vitality and you're probably set.

You will find that nuking becomes less and less viable as you level up (except firewall :) ) due to the high number of HPs mobs will start to have. You should start using CC spells and instakill where possible.

EDIT: yes you can duo at higher levels but it will be harder.

Also, consider only using one hireling, mob HP scaling stops at 4 party members. The reduced HP and damage of mobs may offset the extra cleric.

What quests have you run into that you cant do because of minimum player requirements?

I prefer to short man most runs then to PUG out :)

Most people will say go WF, but I find the cleric hirelings do a pretty good job at keeping you alive, so I think going flesh is not a bad thing.

One strong recommendation is for one of you to consider rolling something that can do traps (wiz/rogue 18/2) with a strong melee. With each of you having hirelings, and 2 sources of DV for your caster, there will only be bodies in your wake!

Thanks for the info/advice! When we rolled we were f2p so for the moment WF is out, we do usually run 1 hireling per person and occasionally if we have trouble one or both of us will pull out a gold seal to fill our ranks and we've met with success thus far.

I believe the only quests we've seen with minimum of 3-4 players are "The Pit" and "The Xorian Cipher."
