How do you get your guild members to be active?

Kick inactive ones and send them a message saying "Just needed to get rid of people who left the game permanently." and a mailed guild invite. If they like your guild, they will rejoin. If they dont like your guild or arent coming back, not your problem.

Promise them cookies.

If they're inactive, perhaps Kathy had sent them an email?

How do you get your guild members to be active? You can try organizing guild-runs for flagging, raids, or running quests with decent loot (Xorian Cipher, for example). However, you can only offer these things - you cannot make your members show up. If they are truly inactive, then you may want to focus on recruiting more active/interested people into joining your guild.

As one who has run a guild in the past and hit similar frustrations as a result, I feel your pain and wish ya luck.

Join the club. Since Turbine won't produce an in-game guild advertising system akin to the LFM panel, and we can't use the LFM without risking an infraction, getting new players is hard. VirusClan is full of characters from people who the legendary year-long content drought caused to give up. There's me and a couple others playing and that's about it. Getting word out and making invites is hard. I DON'T want to do the strong-arm or chicken-hawking methods. I want people who are looking for a guild, period. Not people just looking for a private pug preserve, or airship amenities who will never so much as say hello in guild chat.

Oh well.

Be VERY picky about who you invite into your guild. If they are inactive, boot them.

don't worry about it. in 2 days time inactive players will no longer count against your renown bonus.

Make a schedule.

Post what date and time the quest will be run. If your guild can do RAIDS that is where the action is. Having scheduled RAID nights helps.

ASk the guild members what quests they want to run. If you are F2P and they want to run Tangleroot that might make it difficult.

For players that are F2P, schedule favor runs for Turbine points. F2P, I am one of those, love to get favor for TP.

Schedule LOOT runs. Some quests are good loot runs for helpful and rare items.

Running a Guild isnt easy. I thinkthe biggest mistake most postential guild leads make is overinviting.

It must seem counter productive to some, but when it comes down to it, Less equals more.

a lot of guild leaders feel the only way to have an active guild is to invite everyone they run into. they dont concern themselves with things like personality, playstyle, or hours of play. this causes the guild to get oversaturated with folks that dont particularlly like each other and thus, dont have fun within the guild.

a couple basic guildelines can make a huge difference.

1. Have a solid concept for the guild BEFORE you create it. Are you going to a group of "Casual" gamers? Power Gamers? Raiding guild?

2. Whats is YOUR attitude? Are you patient? Relentless? Spend time with potential recrutis and only recruit people who share your philosophy.

WHen the guild is comprised of like minded individuals, it will prosper. People will natrually collaborate and have fun playing with each other. This will attract more people with the same mindset to join you. To seek you out rather than you running around spending all your tine recruiting.

Good luck.

I would +1 to Impaqt's post if not for the fact that he already has 1 billion gajillion rep points.

Also,

Be active yourself. Advertise your runs, give stuff to your guildies, set up a guild forum, be a great person to play with, and make sure the guild is composed as such too.

I totally switched main servers because I found a good guild.

People ask to join your guild if they enjoy grouping with you. I know I get asked all the time if we are recruiting. So running quests is your best advertising.
