Seriously Turbine, can you please stagger or vary your backup processes? As it is, every server hits a massive slowdown at late morning in europe. Can you not stagger the processes and put them on a rotation so that the hate can be spread out a little?

Sure you want them to hit at the least busy times, but now you're officially 'global' I really think you ought to try to find a time that doesn't always hit the same customer group. Feels like you're picking on them...

Please?

There's a pretty decent late-night/early-morning EST population on Argo... I just lagged out and DC'ed while healing an Elite Devil's Assualt.

Man, is it ever teh suck. :(

/signed. It always hits at around 7:30pm Australian time. I didn't blame them for not staggering it when it was just the Aussies and the Chinese being affected, but with all the euro players coming in I think this would be a great implementation.

no matter when they do it...someone ends up in a swimming pool of lag.

best bet, if it is non-stop lag....turn down graphics til it gets better

Thing is, it's not graphics lag but network/latency issues.

Turning down graphic settings will have zero effect in this situation.

For me, this backup/maintenance period is usually around 10 to 11AM.

I just load up DDO, park my char at a vendor, click sell trash and then go make breakfast/shower etc.

20 minutes later, it may or may not have gone through so I just do other stuff (multitasking :P)

sure we talk about same kind of lag at all?

as far as i have noticed it has nothing to do with your graphic settings or lagging out within same zone. for me it jsut means that every day around same clock lots of features within ddo stop working, shops dont complete sells, auctionhouse dont scroll pages, if you attempt to load to another zone you may get very long loading screen, if you manage to load at all. But it never made me rubberband, i can move within zone, talk in channels, cast buffs and all, only certain features seem to suffer.

quite some people fail to notice what exactly is lagging, is it frame rate drop, packetloss, server lag. those all have possibly very different causes.

network lag can be made worse by graphic load.

so turning down the graphics may not help the network lag...but at least it will not make it worse.
I would just turn it down 1 lvl from your normal play setting...any more would not increase the benefit.

.

Yes. That's the kind of lag I'm talking about.

actually i believe it isnt network issue either, just probably for some reason(backups?) server cant handle the load, thus stops updating things in realtime. anyway its not the issue with you reaching server or server reaching you, its issue with server processing your requests and returning results in reasonable time.

Ok, knowing we talk about same thing, id rather see it happend every day same time for lets say 10-20 mins, i can take it. what i wouldnt want is the lag spreading out over long time period, appearing as totally randomized outbursts.

Sure some people who are online at that time(i am usually) suffer, i dont see much point pushing that presumably backup time to later or earlier, someone will get hit by it either way.

graphics reside client side of game, you dont send/request any more info to server depending on your graphics settings. you can turn everything to minimum, but those **** shops and ah wont start working faster cause of that.

at least i havent noticed any unusual fps drop during that lag time playing on my quite outdated computer. Have also monitored latency and loss at the time, nothing indicates any other unusual performance issues.

That's true, I just think it ought to be rotated a little. I wouldn't want to see it as randomised either, it should be planned and known about in advance. And really, how hard would it be for Turbine to publish the schedule each week?

I was vip for 6 months but some of the things turbine did annoyed me so much i decided not to pay anymore.as it seems they dont need my money to be annoying. now when things go south like they are for you i dont feel nearly as bad because i'm not paying someone to annoy me. i think if everyone went f2p for 6 months that they would listen better to what the players have to say. as it is now they dont need to listen if you're going to continue to pay them to be annoying. so hit them where it hurts, in the pocketbook. if not, then please enjoy your new friend (lagmonster)and make sure you give him lots of money so he can keep some of the population annoyed.some of the population wont get this effect so i dont think they could get on board with this, and of course they will complain to make sure the lag remains with you but i would like all the many, many problems to be addressed and fixed but its cheaper to put out a product that will have a pocket of people complaining than to fix the problems. if you like that plan by all means keep paying for it.
