View Full Version : Deathblock or +5 resistance?

There's my dilemma. I wanted to have both, one at my DT (deathblock) and one at my boots (boots of the innocent).

However, luck hasnt smiled on me, and after questing loads of times, I havent even seen those boots to drop. Therefore, im wondering if deathblock actually out-benefit the +5 resistance or not.

What enemies do we actually need deathblock to beat? I have a monk, so I have fairly high saves (except fortitude), but a +5 resistance would really help on every save I do.

While deathblock only seems to help with Beholder's FoD. If I have the +5 from resistance, I might save more from their FoDs - therefore making up for the same effect as deathblock.

Or am I wrong? In your oppinion, which is better?

deathblock is worthless, it only stops death effects and not all negative/necromantic spells thus only situational

I'd go with the +5 resistance cause it's much better

Deathblock is a required item in certain situations but it's not needed nor is recommended you wear it all the time.

If you don't have one already, get a Silver Flame Talisman from the Necropolis series and switch it in when needed.

use +5 resist all the time, switch to deathblock if you are fighting something you know uses a slay power.

note, if said 'beasty' uses disintergration...you REALLY want both.

Wear deathblock in quests that require it. Otherwise go with the +5. Simple.

Well, I use Oremi's Necklace so Im not really confortable with switching to Talisman, but I guess it'll have to do.

On note, what else besides beholders do I have to be aware about?

Mummies can cast slay living on you.

My opinion: You must have a Deathblock item always! Mid and High level Foes often use Death spells and Vorpal!

But you can have both items, just empty one slot because these 2 defenses are really valuable.

If you have the mental presence of mind to slot in DB when needed, do that.

If you don't and you'll forget, keep it on all the time.

DB prevents vorpals (ie, cacodemons), slay living / finger of death / PK (beholders, casters from Tempest Spine on up), etc.

If you're in a group, Death Ward from a friendly divine or your flenser-guard goggles is just fine ... until you run into the dispellers. That's why beholders are an issue (as they also dispel) but drow & eladrin casters dispel plenty as well. Gnolls can debuff. In those cases you'd want Deathblock.

I will point out that Resist +5 is very difficult to get. Very. If you score that, keep it and then hunt for deathblock. It can be found in many more ways.

Well, next update Eldritch runes will have its effects seen. So it'll probably be VERY easy to get, as long as I have 50 draconic runes to "trade for an eldritch rune for your choice".
