Protection from Elements and from Energy

Protection from Energy (Level 3.): absorbs 12 points/Caster level (Max 120 at level 10.) of damage from one kind of energy. Energy types available are: acid, cold, electricity, fire, and sonic.

Protection from Elements (Level 5.): grants temporary immunity to all forms of energy for 1 minute per Caster level or until 12 points of energy per Caster level (max 120) for each energy type has been absorbed.

What's the difference between these 2 spells besides level? Ty.

It's not inferior, as much as supplemental. Resist is an elemental DR vs Protection's temp hps for elemental. Using both saves a lot of effort for the healers. There are times when you're still getting blasted with 200pt elemental damages, and the Protection would stop 120 damage instead of Resist's 30 points.
