View Full Version : Make PvP more lucrative?

as we all know, PvP is almost exclusively held in brawl areas, where lv 20s go to toss out a few nukes or totally destroy some poor level 3s, but that is usually as far as it goes. I know that DDO is a PvE based game, but i would really like to see some increases in PvP content, or at least, its desirability.

As i only found out a month ago, DDO has a perfectly good program/instance generator for parties to battle each other, it just never happens because nobody thinks it is worthwhile. So:

In team vs. team, enable the betting of Plat on who will win, give xp rewards, perhaps make a point system of some sort which gives rewards as a person gets more achievments in PvP. Imagine how exciting a Capture the Flag game would be if 200k plat was on the table for each player in both teams. Make an area where teams can gather and challenge each other via a device that when interacted with, shows all teams and their average levels.

Perhaps manufacture a several PvP areas, from levels 1-5 5-10 10-15 and 15-20, or something along those lines, with players losing xp when they get killed and gaining xp when they get a kill, upping the amount for each dungeon.

Anything that makes PvP something worthwile, rather than something that people spend the odd 5 minutes on.

I see where you're coming from, but i don't think it will work. Even if it was improved, i doubt many more players would be willing to use it. Losing/gaining XP on win/loss could be abused, and i don't think many people would be willing to bet platinum on a match, when it can be better spent on other things.

IMO, it was a mistake to ever implement this into DDO. It's the rotten egg in an otherwise good carton that everyone tries to ignore.

That can't work unless there was some semblance of balance.

I wouldnt mind an upgrade, but it's fine as it is now and i'd prefer it to be behind druids and bugfixes on the priority list... right under "Text Corrections"

xp loss and win is a terrible idea, money bet would be awesome

NO rewards for pvp as soon as you have rewards for pvp the problem expand greatly. Plus no dev time spent on something only a minoity uses.

XP rewards would be exploited.
Plat rewards would be exploited.
I cant imagine being able to level a character w/o questing. Doesn't seem right.

Betting on the outcome would cause a lot of crying over "balance" and much GM time settling PvP disputes,

For those that do like PvP I would think some new challenge areas would be nice but rewards just wouldn't work IMO.

I don't do PvP so it wouldn't effect me except for the Dev working on that instead of new quests or bug fixes that I would rather see.

There should never be a reward for PvP beyond personal satisfaction and/or fun.

It would be lucrative for Turbine too. Would increase cash sales from EPeeners and would supply a form of end game content. Not that its necessary good, as it would attract EPeeners, but there are more then though other MMOs for them that DDO would not be relatively more appealing
