Protection From Evil says it protects from magical compulsions. Does this include Hold Person?

The wiki doesn't say outright, but implies it does not.

Hold Person is a Will save, which implies it is a mental compulsion, not physical so Protection from Evil would defend against it.

Does anyone have first hand experience with this and how it is applied in DDO?

No, that won't prevent Hold spells.

It won't stop Hold Person. It'd be nice if it did (**** pesky casters), but it doesn't.

Usually the only experience I've had of its other feature is fighting vampires, as having Protection from Evil prevents them from Dominating you into standing around helplessly. A bug/"feature" (?) makes its bonuses to saves stackable, so that's also another plus.

thanks y'all. That'll help me use it correctly.

Turtle: I had given up on the compendium as a source of information and exclusively use the wiki. I guess I'll have to rethink that. Thanks.

That's a really, really incomplete guide.

Protection from Evil negates vampire domination, and command/greater command. It also provides +2 stacking saves. It's one of the most useful spells in the game.
