What is a spammer?

Today, I was accused of being a spammer in the TRADE channel. I am on the Cannith Server.

I offer all my stuff for FREE. I go to Korthos and post in the TRADE channel. I offer each item once, if no takers, I will then go to the market and sell it. When I am in the harbor or marketplace, I even mail the stuff to the other player.

FREE +2 Heavy Mithril Shield
FREE Remove Fear Necklace
FREE +2 Docent
FREE three different sets of robes the best one is Spearblock -5 damage from arrows, all for 2nd level characters.

I ask for nothing in return. I just try to give low end gear away. I did give away the chain, the shield, the necklace, and the docent.

If this is spamming then I will stop. I am just trying to encourage new players.

Just say 'Giving away FREE items. Items include: +2 adamantine chain, +2 heavy mithril shield, Remove Fear Necklace(X charges/day), a +2 docent, and 3 seperate sets of robes. Just /tell me.'

It's better to do that than one line mesages.

Considering what you normally see in Cannith's trade channel (Marketplace/Harbor), I would hardly call once per item spamming. Maybe they just thought it was spamming because you listed each item individually? Assuming, you know, that's actually what you did. XD

Spamming would be saying the same thing in the chat channel repeatedly over and over with no discernable break. If you are offering it once, how are you doing so? Are you stating it one by one? That could potentially be considered spam if you are hogging up the channel so it seems like a wall of text.

You may wish to try in one liine offering your goods such as :
/trade free to good home +1 chain, +1 dwarven axe, robe of invulnerability, send tell please. If you feel you are getting no response and want to offer it again, then wait a few (Id recommend waiting five) to offer it again).

While your not trying to spam, at least on in spirt or intensions, it may be a bit "spammy".

The simple answer, link it all into one line, hit it once, call it good.

If your only do it now and then, anyone griping can prolly be quiet. If your sitting in the harbor for 3+ hours just going to town on the trade channel, thats prolly spammish.

Well, if you're doing it across areas, and someone else happens to be moving between those areas and seeing everything over and over again, yeah, spammy.

If there was only one complaint, I wouldn't worry about it, there's generally one chronic complainer in every crowd. If getting spammed with complaints, I'd simply stop giving stuff away.

is spamm by its very nature bad?
if someone spammed a message, deadly gas has leaked out stay inside over and over his definitely a spammer.
being a spammer isnt bad in itself its just not very efficent since majority of you readers are unlikely to want what ur spamming.

General rule i've used in many games...

If theres not 10 lines of chat(not counting guild, party, ect) or 5 minutes, Between each line of stuff you put into trade..

You're kinda spamming.

Dont worry for one second what random strangers tell you on general chat channels in main areas of this game. Those channels are so full of horse pucky anyhow, nobody in their right mind has any chance or reason, let alone the right, to police them (unless you are specifically breaking an actual rule, in which case, all they can do is report you).

+1 for helping new players. I woulda been thrilled to get the +2 adamantium FP when I first started.

If you type each sentence in separately and press enter, its sorta spammy because it takes up several lines of peoples text box.
Like another poster said, try to keep it all in one entry/sentence.

Obviously, "spam" is in the eye of the beholder.

My opinion is that you're doing (or at least trying to do) a very generous service to other players and I'm not about to accuse someone being generous of spamming. Ain't going to happen. My guess is you ran across someone with really severe cramps.

I love it when I get stuff for free. Someone gave my wizard robes of heavy fort while running a quest with them - it was awesome! And that is just one example. I have had many people give me good stuff.

As for people who poke there nose into other peoples business, just try to ignore them. What's worse is when they type in, 'That's a ripoff, don't but it'. Which is usually wrong because I sell stuff at low prices because I just want it gone. I always love to send them a tell back and say, 'that's funny because the guy who just bought it thought it was a good deal.' It would be much kinder of people like that to send you a tell instead of ruining your sell.

I think a lot of people who do this type of stuff have not, in a very long time, brought a character off the boat from Korthos with nothing but 150 plat to your name and no higher level toon to fund you. So they cant appreciate how nice it is to get some +2 armor when you get off the boat.

If this is spam then people need to post nothing but spam on the open channels. Sure as hell beats the stuff that's "not spam".

Complainer was probably complaining because your legit posts were scrolling off his 5 pages of "lvl 3 rouge lfg kobald assualt" on general, his 5 pages on "how to build a 6 Con ranger" on advice, and his 7 pages of "dude, it's not worth that much" on trade, and his 4 pages of random "yo momma so fat" insults to random strangers on each and every open channel possible.
