Heh. Don't forget that at least one of the most *epic* would be Epic Ward of Undeath, since its specifically meant to be a Basher. Although think there's a good Shield of Legend for that...

Anyway, I'd say any basher build would still be High-Str, High-Con. Maybe Kensai II/Barb 6/Rogue 2 or something like that. Rages, Power Surges, Evasion (even if saves are kinda lackluster), grants proficiency with all shield types. Unlocks all of Fighter Haste Boost, if I recall.

And, of course, assuming it would be an intimitank as well, you'd want Improved Shield Bash, both the Blocking DR Feats, and would probably want a fair share of guard items so your atrocious Shield-bash DPS is offset by anything hitting you taking said guard items' collective damage.

But.. those are thoughts, not a build >.> So maybe someone will be more ambitious than I.

I like to shield bash in PvP >.> Get on my Fighter. Its funny to Trip someone with Shield Bash. At least, it is to me.

Probably Weapon Focus and Improved Crit : Bludgeon.

Not to mention all the other Kensei stuff like Weapon Specialization and such. Is there a shield kensai? I'm thinking no...

Edit: Checked, nope, no Shield Kensai, or other enhancements to shields like there are other weapons.

Shields sometimes have Ghost Touch on them, which only affects bashing.

I'm turning mine into an intimitank.


And I currently think the best use for shield bashing is on an intimitank.....who has a high AC first, and focuses on shieldbashing as a minor secondary trait.


High Str is the only way to increase sheidlbashing damage.....and you only get half. And few shields give you any bonus to damage at all....and it is very minor.

Plus the attack looks very slow.

I do however think any Ftr based intimitank should take Improved Shield Bash though....cause it makes sense to me to do damage to them while your turtling up...even if it is small damage.

There really is no good way to beef it up.

Power Attack does work on it, but to me that defeats the defensive purpose. (and I consider it a nerf)

It's an off-hand attack so only half Str bonus gets used.

Plus from shield has no effect. (but I think some named shields might do more damage....like from the Hound raid)

Some feats can be used with a shiled bash animation.....bt not sure if this is actualy advantageious or not.



Best use for it is to do damage while shieldblocking. Shieldblocking can get seom great DR. So it is kinda col to turtle up and still do some damage back to the bad guy.

Here's a lazy (and no doubt terrible) first attempt at a shield-focused build: dwarf ftr 20 SD intimitank with max shield-blocking DR + Imp Shield Bash. The idea is to grab as much aggro as possible using Intim & greataxe w/PA, then switch to DAxe + tower shield, turtle up, and shield-bash away. Sacrificed some DPS to crank up Intim & HPs, slight boost to saves. EDIT: might want to take the Shield Mastery feats sooner to maximize the gimpiness - err, I mean, the awesome!

If you're really set on doing this I'd suggest going paladin as you can smite/divine sacrifice with shieldbash.

I'd suggest going either Dwarf or WF for a bashing build, since you can both Trip and Stunning Blow using bash - and the tactics line would certainly help. I had planned one a long, long time ago but never rolled it up. If I can find the build, I'll post it - but it's likely too out of date to be of much use.

I'm still not sure that Improved Shield Bash allows to keep DR bonus. DDO Wiki says (http://ddowiki.com/page/Improved_Shield_Bash) it doesn't. If I were going to create a shield bashing tank I'd check it three times before I start...
