View Full Version : Guild Augment slots are too restrictive to be useful

My guild finally hit level 25 so I figured I'd find a Small Augment pair of gloves for my intimi-bard, and throw on a crystal and improve my intimidate skill. When I got to the crafting altar, low and behold, it didn't work. I scratched my head, examined the crystal - I can only put this in an armor or shield!
I look at what I can fit into these gloves I looted - either disable device, open lock, or a Health or Power crystal.
If these boosts are going to be even slightly useful, I cannot displace my Light & Dark shield or my Levik's shield, or my main armor slot on a TANK, to throw on an extra +1 or 2 intim. Is it going to be overpowered if someone puts a Perform or haggle buff on a cloak, or dare I suggest a Balance crystal on something other than boots?
Weapons I can understand, with the flaming and whatnot. Limiting these others? Whats the sense in that...

Yup, they need to go back and re-evaluate the whole guild augment slot system from the top. Questions to ask:
1. Does it help to make these augments restricted to guilds?
2. How can players find augment-slot items without closely inspecting each loot piece?
3. How much does an augment slot add to the power of a random item?
4. Why not named loot with these slots?

I use the spell point ones on my lowbie Cleric (40 spell points matters then), and that's it. I can jam them into any socket, the rest I don't really consider.

I bet you can. O.o

too restrictive /agreed
Should not have a time limit /suggested
Removing the time limit and making them permanent would give some meaning to the crystals.. as they are, people rarely use them.

It really shouldn't matter whether its armor or a weapon and they shouldn't wear off.......if you buy the affect it be nice to have it permanent!

They need to remove the whole gem-effect x can only be applied to item-type y thing. It is indeed restrictive to the point of making me not even bother with most of the gems - HP gems being the only ones I purchase with any sort of semi-regularity.
I don't mind the time limit so much as I really detest not being able to apply the effect I want to the item I have.

You know, I don't mind that they are buffs that wear off. But I agree that the restrictions on what crystal can go in what slot are overly restrictive and annoying. Enough so that I haven't bothered using them at all.

4. Why not named loot with these slots?
Because you don't want to lose acces to your named raid loot you was grinding for ages when you're dissmised from guild. Yeah I know, you may think that "my guildmates will never kick me out", but well, your guild is not the only guild in DDO. And I know that guild that is kicking out its member without any reason is absolutely worthless, but you need day, week or month to find a new guild.

Also, it should be possible to overwrite/replace an active crystal. I do use a tiny augment item, for +5 HP. Come U7, I'll be using a medium for +15 HP. But it's a pain to have to wait until it completely runs out to refresh it. If I could just stroll by a stone of change whenever I'm waiting for a raid to form, and refresh it when it's getting low, it would be much more convenient. This will be a bigger issue as well, since I may start relying on a small slot armor for +10% fort so I can use the WCII doublestrike song safely.
Then again, considering how negligible the plat cost is, is it necessary to have a timer at all?

Needs to be a fix on this.

Have to agree with this myself. I rarely bother with them at all right now. .

That isn't an issue, the GML only applies with the augment in place, when it expires, the item is GML1

That could only happen if the slots are linked to guild membership, which is not something that should be done.

It is an issue if you just augmented it. 6 hours in-game time could cover several evening of play for many people. One possible solution, a way to remove augments, would also help with the "almost expired" problem.

Yes, whet it expires its Guild lv 1. What I meant, is that after you was kicked out of a guild (or decided to leave them, whatever) you would have to find/start new one to use naimed loot. It have to take some time, sometimes its 5 minutes, 1 hour, 1 day, 1 weak or 3 months. Until this time (if you don't want to start new guild) you can't use this named item with guild augument slot.

Yes I agree that the slots need to be less restrictive. Something like this maybe?
+Skills, SP, HP = All item/accessory slots
+ Resistances, Natural AC, HP, SP = Armor/shields
+Damage/damage mod = Weps
Also think that adding another crafting alter or a couple new recipies to the stone of change to add a guild augment slot to items would be a nice idea too. Maybe do something with the massive amount of gems we all have laying around.

The thing I really would like to see, is possibility to enlarge slots size. Now, when guild gets higher level, players must look for new random item with slots.

Agreed.
1. Significantly lengthen the expiration time (or do away with it completely).
2. Reduce the restrictions to just Armor/Weapon/Item classes instead of being so specific on items.
3. Make it just a "guild slot" accepting whatever size crystal (tiny, small, medium or large) you can currently use.
Those 3 changes would make them soooooo much better and more useful. I challenge the dev's to query their DB's to see how much these are actually getting use. Im willing to bet they are very, rarely being used right now. I liked the concept, it took some work to add to the game, and we all know random loot can use every bit of help it can get. So let's get this addressed and allow it to become more fun!

About the only frequent uses I can think of and I use are the Haggle gem on my haggle bard because it stacks with everything else. 6 hr +3 guild bonus.

Every time I get a new decent item with a guild slot I think "maybe I'll find something to add to this" so I wander over to House K, check out the guild vendor and walk away disappointed...
These need a huge overhaul to even be modestly useful...

Recipe for adding more augment slots is a NICE idea - maybe use some more soul gems or something, or another collectable.
I know this isn't a bug that needs fixing, or something that seriously needs dev attention, but this would really help on the usefulness factor.

At least make the crystal usable on all the existing equipment that the effect could be randomly generated on.
For example, everything should be available on rings, resists should be available on cloaks, etc.

It should work like this, as it is I never use them. Maybe this is intended as Turbine can add stuff to the game that no one will use so they dont have to worry about balancing.

Wish they would allow us to add/craft them on to items...

This is probably the most important thing. Also, the ability to add a Guild slot to any piece of equipment would be nice.
And fixing it so that you can re-add a Crystal prior to the exisitng one expiring would make these a lot better.

I've always thought it was a bad idea to have the minimum guild level on the item...
The items should be usable by everyone, but you should only be able to buy the gems if you are a guild member of the appropriate level.
