View Full Version : Items w/ UMD bonus

Hey guys,

I couldn't find an item discussion thread, so I figured I would ask this here. I have a few items with my rogue that require UMD, and of course as a rogue I am leveling UMD. Problem is, I'm lacking the UMD to use my items and I've been told that there are few items out there that actually have UMD bonus. So basically what I'm asking here is, would you guys mind helping me out and telling me what these items are? Or give me a link to see what these items are? If you guys post, would you mind telling me: What kind of item it is, (gloves, helmet, ect.) How much UMD it adds and level req.

seven finger gloves from titan and i think theres an abbott item as well, golden cartouche as well.

While there are many (just search for "Use Magic Device" on forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=249178 to find them), the best, and easiest to obtain, ones are the Golden Cartouche (+3), from Delara's, and The Big Top (stacking +1), from the Carnival. Voice of the Master, also from Delaras, adds +1 to all skills (stacks with the others). If you can get someone to cast GH on you (or get a Planar Gird) that will help too. If you don't, you should be carrying Heroism pots anyway.

At higher level, you can craft an item that adds +6 to all CHA skills, including UMD, in the Shroud.

Seven Fingered Gloves have a +5 umd

The Big Top hat has a +1 umb


im sure there are more.... i just dont know them off the top of my head



and others have added to the thread since i started my answer with more options ;)

A few that come to mind real quick are:

Golden Cartouche - +3 umd necklace from Delera's chain end reward
Big Top - +1 umd hat from Carnival pack
Seven Fingered Gloves - +5 umd from Twilight Forge raid in Restless isles pack
GH spell - +4 to skills
Head of good fortune - +2 luck bonus to skills Trinket from Reaver's Fate raid Gianthold
Rogue skill boost - +* to all skills

One last question actually. If I have an item that requires 20 UMD, and I have 18 UMD but use a buff to get it to 20. Will I still be able to use the item if it's equiped after my buff wears off?

Once you take item off and your buff wears off no, as long as its equiped your fine.

Nope. Once your UMD falls below pre-req, item will fall of.
It wasn't always this way.

Are you sure? I thought once equipped you ok til you log out or unequip?

I'll have to check when I get home. I might be remembering incorrectly. Not 100%. All my UMD toons have plenty of UMD :P

it's been both ways since the beginning, there as a time (not too long ago) that when ur skill dropped the item would fall off the moment you did any action as umd checks were happening all the time, not just when that item was taken off etc... fortunately they changed it back to the way it used to be so we can keep our items on!

To expand on those items that have UMD:

Under the Big Top has
The Big Top: +1 UMD

This helmet stacks with other UMD items:

Delera's Chain has
Golden Cartouche: Necklace +3 UMD
Voice of the Master: Trinket +1 to all skills also stacks with the Big Top and the Golden Cartouche

Titan Raid has
Seven Finger Gloves: +5 UMD, +11 Disable Device, +11 Open Locks.

Reaver Raid (Gianthold):
Head of Good Fortune: Trinket +2 to all skills

On a side note:

The Bunny Helmet from the Store: 250 TPs
While having a wand or scroll equipped will give you +3 to your UMD
The remarkable thing about this item is that it doesn't go into any slot
it just replaces the look on your head.
Be it that you have showhelmet off, or are currently sporting a helmet.

I know the Abbot has a pair of UMD gloves as well. Vile Blasphemy +6 Dexterity +3 UMD
Vons has the Cloak of the Silver Concord with Persuasion which should be either +3 to UMD
Bring me the Head of Ghola Fan has
Staff of the Seer: +5 UMD, Cast True Seeing

Now on a side note which may be considered a total waste of components on a character without mana:

Greensteel Accessory: Pos / Pos / Pos

150 Mana, 50 Mana, 100 Mana for a total of 300 Mana / 600 on Sorcs/FvS
+1, +2, +3 to Charisma Skills stacking for a total of +6 to all Charisma Skills.
Greater Disruption Guard: Sometimes undead hitting you Disrupt.

To categorize them:

Head of Good Fortune / Voice of the Master give you +2 or a +1
Which stacks with:
Under the Big Top +1 UMD
And all these Stack with The Following:

Golden Cartouche/Bunny Helmet/Vile Blasphemy/Cloak of the Silver Concord: +3 UMD
or
Seven Fingered Gloves / Staff of the Seer*: +5 UMD.

To all these you can add: The Time limits are from items/scrolls/potions
Heroism: +2 to skills for 5 minutes approximately
or
Good Hope: +2 to skills for minutes approximately
or
Greater Heroism: +4 to skills for 11 minutes Approximately
which will grant you either a +2 or +4 to your skills.

Bard Skill song: +2 to skill for 2 minutes minimum

Monk fire/pos/fire finishing move: +2 to skills. 1 minute
Monk void/pos/void finishing more: +5 to skills. 10 seconds.

Easily with a +3 item, voice of the master +1, heroism potion +2: you can add +6 to your skills:

If you go all out: +5 item, +2 head of good fortune, +4 greater heroism and +6 charisma item from shroud: 17 UMD

Skill boost: from +2 to +5 UMD.

Then situationally: +2 skill song, +2 fire buff, +5 void buffs = 9 umd

Now I know some of these items are hard to obtain, others are a little worthless to a pure rogue, some are a bit ridiculous like having the monks double buff you. But again just a suggestion of where you can come up with umd as a reference.

My recommendation is to go for the basic items:
+1 Voice of the master
+2 Heroism Potions
+3 Golden Cartouche unless you can afford a Bunny Helmet ( I was lucky I bought mine when there was a store error and they where at 5 TPs each)
+1 Big Top, just swap back and forth between your more useful helmet while questing.

Then worry about upgrades:
Greater Heroism scrolls, Head of good Fortune, Seven Fingered Gloves.

* The Staff of the seer is a two handed weapon so you won't be able to benefit from the UMD bonus to use scrolls:

Does the +300/+600 sp stack with the +200 sp from Bracers of the Glacier (http://ddowiki.com/page/Bracers_of_the_Glacier)?

On greensteel items, you can craft Wizardry VI, Elemental Spellpower (+50 spell points) and Greater Elemental Spellpower (+100 spell points). Archmagi supersedes Wizardry VI, but the rest will stack.
