Spell DC and Focus Equipment Messed Up.

OK, here's what happens:

1. I load up my lvl20 Sorcerer and hover over the Banishment (an Abjuration spell) to see Save: 49(Will).

2. I swap out current ogre power / shield of faith clicky bracers for Abjuration Focus bracers with Invisibility clicky. This should increase the DC of Abjuration spells by +1

3. I hover over Banishment and see Save: 33(Will), and think "hmm the bracers subtracted 16 instead of adding one"

4. Swap old bracers back in and see Save: 31(Will), and think "Hey, that's screwy!"

5. Log out and back in and see the save back to 49.

6. Open the MyDDO window, hit the forum tab, and post this here.

Anyone know why this would be happening?

i guess its a bug related to the new mechanism that the item-effects are not loaded prior to be fully logged in...

after u put on bracers turn heighten off and on and it will fix it.

I currently use Extend for buff time, Maximize and Empower since they stack, and Enlarge to reach things like Lailat when she ports to a ledge. Least used is Enlarge, but still situationally useful enough to not want to swap it.

This feat starved Sorcerer has no room for Heighten.

49 DC for Banishment is OK, 'cuz it's a special spell, and it's save is it's natural DC+caster level-monster HD. So if the normal DC is 33, adding ur caster level (16 probably), it becomes 49, but you reduce enemies HD on the save check.

By the way I figure it the caster level should be 20 on a level 20 sorcerer, making regular DC 29, but after swapping (DC = 33) in the bracers and taking them off the DC is still 31.

The bracers say they add +1 and removing them subtracts 2, not counting the 16 subtracted on original equipping

Its only a display bug; if you test on another player you will find that regardless of the display, you have the appropriate dc.

Banishment has always displayed a wonky high dc becasue it has a special dc: it adds your character level and subtract's the mob's hd from the dc.

they are all selectable. Not sure why anyoen would think theres some sort of restriction on metamagics.

As a wizard, I believe you get to choose a Metamagic Feat at lvl 1, 5, 10, 15, and 20. Metamagic Feats include Empower Spell, Enlarge Spell, Eschew Materials, Extend Spell, Heighten Spell, Maximize Spell, and Quicken Spell.

Actually they did expand that list quite a bit.

I beleive you can take Mental toughness, Improved Mental toughness, [greater]Spell Focus:X, and Spell Penns now as well with those feat slots.

Finger of Death & Web spring to mind, as do a number of Evocation spells. Disintegrate, Hypno & Resistable Dance (maybe not now, but certainly in U7). I used to think Heighten wasn't important. Now I realize it is.

<edit> Also, if the +1 or +2 DC isn't that important, I assume that you don't find the Spell Focus feats important, either.

I always customize my characters and have never chosen a template (not even for testing the template creation process). It sounds like you used a template and your feats (among other things) were chosen for you. You can exchange one of your existing feats by talking to Fred in House J.

A difference of 1 or 2 to the DC is pretty significant for the low cost of a feat, which Wizards have plenty of, and 5 mana per level (or less - enhancements and Wizard capstone). Wizards regularly spend a feat for just +1 DC to a specific school. This is a feat to give a bonus to DCs of every school for all spells below 9th level at a very nominal mana cost.

Otto's Sphere is a will save and Web is a Reflex save. Dance is a compulsion and there are things that it doesn't work on. I'd rather Web and Mass Hold. Also, some older computers get impacted by Otto's. As for Charm v Dominate, I'd rather use Mass Suggestion (lvl 6) if I'm going to charm monsters at all.

I'm actually curious as to what feats you do have, since I had enough to take 2 schools to GSF, GSP, Heighten, Emp, Max, and Extend and still have a couple for PRE prereqs.

Toughness, MT, GSP, SF(necro/evo/enchant), extend, empower, maximize, insighful reflex,

What I meant, is if you don't want/like heighten don't take it, if you want/like take it.
Personally I wouldn't take this feat to cast low level spells with same and DCs as high levels, but with weaker effects. If you wan't to do this fine.

Seriously if this is how ya see it you are very uninformed.

Web is one of the best CC spells in game a extended heighten web can stop anything the save it uses is the reason why.

Ottos sphere is situational in alot of content it is nice but in amrath and end game everything seems to have extra saves vs enchantment and makes it less useful add heighten will up its dc by a couple nd makes more useful just not as much as web.

Some of the others you are right but finger is nice to have even if have banshee the range on the spell and the closeness for banshee to work is huge.

Seriously not saying ya stupid or anything but very misinformed and heighten on a caster if dc based is a must IMO and alot others.

Hmm...
I'm doing fine with my CC, and I don't feel I lack anything because of heightened web. Probably, if I would be choosing my feats again I could take heighten and almost never use it, but only because SF(necro) is useless at epics.
