Re-installed, same error.
Load of different HD, same error

Windows 7 refuses to uninstall or re-install any version of .net framework.

This is killing me. Any ideas?

Well.. my game seems to work now. A windows update, HD error checker, an update from Turbine and a lot of messing around it seems to work now.

Though, here is the e-mail I got from Turbine!:

Greetings,

Thank you for contacting Turbine Technical Support. The issue occurring can be due to a corruption or missing files in the "Microsoft .Net 1.1 Framework" installation. Detailed below are steps to reinstall "Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1" and the "Microsoft .Net 1.1 Framework service pack"*.

*These do install onto all current versions of Windows but you may encounter issues re-installing them with later versions** of .Net that are pre-installed (typically 3.0/3.5 which may need to be temporarily uninstalled while performing the 1.1 reinstall)

**.Net version 4.0 was recently released but it may need to be completely uninstalled to allow 1.1 to work (it disables some of the needed features of 1.1)

To begin confirm what versions are installed currently and if 1.1 and its service pack are installed by clicking on the Windows "Start" button and choosing "Control Panel" > "Add or Remove Programs" (XP) or "Uninstall a Program" (Vista / 7).

For 1.1 you should see the following two items listed but may only see the first one:

"Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1"
"Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 "Hotfix" (KB####)"

You may see only one or both listed either way uninstall them via the uninstall option, starting with "Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1" and then the one labeled as a "hotfix" (you may receive errors removing the "hotfix" but it should take itself out of the list). Re-download these from the pages linked below for reinstalling with:

Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=262d25e3-f589-4842-8157-034d1e7cf3a3&displaylang=en) & The 1.1 Service Pack (Hotfix) (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A8F5654F-088E-40B2-BBDB-A83353618B38&displaylang=en)

In some rare instances when you receive errors installing either of those on Windows you may need to perform the steps to "Slipstream" the installs for .Net 1.1 and its service pack in a single installation.

There is a very detailed post linked below that can aid in any issues you may encounter installing 1.1 and its service pack on Windows, and also guides through "slipstreaming" the installations of both for installing:
http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=322911

(Although these steps are unsupported, and are detailed for Windows 7, you may want to attempt them to ensure 1.1 installs correctly, also they are easily amended for performing them on other Windows versions)

Thank you,

Ok, to anyone else having this error:

Open your launcher
the error message will pop up - don't click OK (that will close the window)
instead just let the game update in the background
when it's all updated it will restart and it works (atleast it did for me)
