So, last night the guild decided to run Xorian Cipher, and I only had one character at the right level - a Dwarf fighter/ranger/rogue I bodged together before I really knew what I was doing. (Not that I really know now, but I've learned enough to spot earlier mistakes.) Now, when my wife and I started playing, she wanted to play a greatsword kensai, so I built a character to fill in all the rest - trapsmithing, intim tanking, ranged and healing, as well as reasonably good DPS. Bit of a kludge, and I only really planned him up to 8th level. Now that we've coerced enough friends to play as well, I can afford to GR him into something that isn't spread quite so thin. (And that doesn't have Whirlwind Attack.)
The plan is to GR from Fighter 5 / Ranger 2 / Rogue 2 into Tempest 2 with Rogue and Fighter splashes. Even with a GR+3 I can't get below two levels of fighter, so I might as well embrace that and try to do something useful with it.
The aim here is respectable DPS with full trap skills.
Having tried a couple of progressions out on the planner, I'm thinking about going Ranger 16 / Fighter 2 / Rogue 2 - i.e. as pure Ranger as my current split will let me. I can see the logic of going Tempest 3 / Rogue 2 (although that requires a GR+3 and a LR+3, which is a bit pricey) or Tempest 2 Kensai 1 (although that will hurt the trap skills.) In both cases I figured the cost wasn't worth the benefit.
Advice sought, people! (Aside from the fact I've finished on an odd Str. Probably should have started at 16 and dumped the extra points into Wis.)
