For a pure monk, is there any reason to ever use kama or quarterstaff aside from (in the former case) fighting zombies, probably at lower levels? I know that dark path monks benefit from rapiers due to the increased crit threat range, but I'm still trying to figure out what if any advantages there are when it comes to the other weapons. Is it mostly a multiclass consideration?

Dark monks can use short swords after they take the ninja pre's that said I keep a set of vorpal kamas, that's it for what I regularly carry.
Kama's and staffs aren't really good for dps consideration when your fists will do better damage with just wraps.

Kamas can have vorpal which is handy in some areas, and against zombies in lower level areas.
quarterstaff is good for glancing blows, which do a comparitively larger amount of damage vs. the mobs in lower level quests, and a metalline quarterstaff isnt too hard to find in relatively low levels for dealing with things like clay/iron golems etc.
at higher levels as a pure monk though, you're generally better off using your fists.

vorpal and DR breaking is the only reason to ever use anything beyond your fists on a pure monk.
I don't bother with kamas at low level for zombies unless there are a ton of them but must times I can't be bothered to switch weapons.
Only time I do bother is for Incorps, but am crossing my fingers that Shintao will give ghost touch (like Pally HotD) along with all its nice other DR passings so I can play a lazy monk that never swaps wraps.

When you're doing elite content like Shroud, VoD, HoX and ToD, it's superior for a monk to kill creatures with vorpal effects instead of beating them down with damage. Handwraps can't have the Vorpal tagline, but Kamas can. Monks are superior vorpalers over other TWF classes because of the increased attack rate in air stance. (More chances to attack = more chances to roll a 20 to trigger vorpal.)
