Correct my if I'm wrong, but explosive arrow just applies flaming burst to your arrows right? Which means instead of the 1d6+2d4 instant acid damage you got at level 9 (not to mention the continuing damage for those pesky, long-lived enemies) you only get 1d6 fire damage instantly with a chance to do an additional 1d10. Even with the Silver Longbow and IC:Ranged, you have a 20% chance (17-20/x3) of getting that extra damage as opposed to acid arrow which gives you that damage on every hit. Even if you only hit half the time (a conservative estimate) it seems like you'd do far more damage with the level 9 enhancement than the level 12 enhancement.
I'm hoping my math is wrong on this, but let me know.

I thought the flaming burst arrows were an Area-of-Effect attack on critical hits?

I didn't see any of that, but if true that could sway me.

now that would have been nice. to be able to cast fireballs with your bow would be nice.

Only place explosive imbue comes in handy is against fire vulnerable mobs, otherwise you are better off sticking to acid imbues. It actually doesn't make sense why explosive arrows even come later than acid arrows for that matter.

Grease + Flaming arrow would be cool if it would work like that. :)

Flaming burst arrows do stack with a flaming burst bow though, so you can deal a massive amount of fire damage on criticals.
I agree though that flaming burst arrows should offer something more like fire splash damage to targets nearby (at least on a critical) or even a magma surge effect on a vorpal. (fire damage over time, slowing etc)

That's how it works in pnp, though I suppose that the AA from pnp and ddo look little alike.
EDIT: Well that sucks about explosive arrows... Can any high level AA's tell me when I get the next decent weapon enhancement? Are fearsome or slaying arrows any good?

The Force Burst Imbue is decent, but are overshadowed by the damage from the Acid Imbue.
Fearsome Imbue does Shaken every hit, save or cause Fear every hit, and on a vorpal strike cast Phantasmal Killer as well.
Slaying Imbue does 500pts of damage on a vorpal strike.

Fearsome arrows with a para bow in the vale is nice when you first get out there.
