View Full Version : Wizard or rogue - debating...

I have a lvl 4 wizard and a 2/1 rogue/fighter. I'm getting bored of the wizard because I always feel so useless in groups. My hypnotism is always resisted, webs seem to do nothing and my only decent offensive spell is scorching ray which eats up SP if I'm not careful.
Rogue is fun though. I like sneaking, disarming traps... all that stuff.
So I guess my questions here would be - what's more useful for groups and what could I do better? Also, what are the exact roles of both rogue and wizard in a group?
As a side note, I wish ranged combat was more viable. I'd love to play an archer.
Thanks.

keep with either your having fun with...both can be very powerful at higher lvs...you'll even be getting the high kill counts in many groups. :)

Get the best of both and make a wizard/rogue. Rogue @ 1st level, max intel, then wizard till you get FW and you can solo your way thru most content. Leveling a wizard is painful till you get FW but after that your the main DPS. Look on the wizard and multiclass forums and you should be able to find a few builds, I'd recommend WF for self healing.

Resisted? Does nothing? Explain. Maybe your build is wrong or something?
And I would not judge a class based on only '4' levels.

Rogue: kill stuff fast
Wizard: buff others so they kill faster, crowd control mobs so they are easier to kill, kill stuf fast
The role of *any* class or build in DDO is:
- kill stuff fast
- boost others so the kill even faster
- keep "ours" alive so they can kill stuff
DDO is very combat, action oriented game. You do damage or prevent damage or multiply damage or repair damage. And one single build can do more then one of those things.

My wizard uses the Ingenius Sage build and I only deviated with his first feat. I took Augmented Summons for better hirling/pets for soloing the lower levels.
And maybe the mobs I'm hypnotizing are just getting really good rolls, but it seems like about 50% of them resist it.
