View Full Version : The Opportunist - Ninja Spy Arcane Archer

I've been thinking about TRing my monk and want to get my money's worth out of some of the gear he has (devouts, icy, etc.). I also want him to have a little more versatility than in his current life.

This build seems to fit the bill. It maintains a traditional monk's key capabilities: survivability with great saves, improved evasion, good AC and good unarmed DPS.

To that it adds great ranged DPS (maybe an oxymoron, but slayer arrows + manyshot on a build that can also melee well = fun times) and wand whipping convenience for soloing.

This is the first build I've seen that combines the damage potential of Arcane Archer slayer arrows and the monk's Touch of Despair.

Build highlights:

Survivability:

Improved evasion
Great saves
Good AC potential (gear dependent) - if this is not your thing, drop Combat Expertise and take another toughness instead
Inherent Poison & Disease Immunity

Melee Capability:

Full GTWF feat chain
Improved critical bludgeoning
Touch of Despair
Ninja Spy II PrE
Fighter Haste Boost

Ranged Capability:

Elven Arcane Archer PrE
Slayer Arrows
Improved critical ranged
Manyshot

Others:

Abundant Step
Ranger Sprint Boost
4 Levels of monk Fast Movement
Moderate HP potential (this is the builds greatest weakness IMO- but will end almost identical to a Rockan Robin build for example, but without the level 20 monk's DR)
Wand whipping ability

The build has a high enough DEX that wind stance is not necessary for the added to-hit bonus (unlike my current monk [Rockan Robin build] who has to be in wind stance when using either power attack or CE- which is 100% of the time). When in melee mode, fire stance can be used as needed for increased Ki generation and TOD spamming. Switch to wind stance for either vorpal or AC modes.

The level progression outlined below is not ideal, but it was the easiest way to put the build together quickly and make sure that all the key feats fit.

Skills are not fleshed out, but with the class splits there are plenty of skill points for full ranks in balance, jump & concentration, maybe some stealth and intimidate for situational use.

Fun concept!

Is it missing Weapon Finesse in there somewhere? I can't seem to find it.

Thanks :)

Weapon Finesse is in there as the monk bonus feat at level 8. Would really need to take this earlier - which means taking a monk level earlier- probably at level 2.

Must not have seen Dark-Star's Special Forces (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=243394) build, then. :)

I guess I have seen the Special Forces build before. It is nice, no doubt.

It doesn't have improved critical for either melee or ranged. It also doesn't have Combat Expertise.

This build has all three.
