While I agree that from a purely min/max perspective, dwarves are often the #1 race choice, humans are so often the #2 race choice, and (if not the #1) that they, IMO, gain the spot as #2.

You forgot to mention their one real use.
If you sacrifice one in TOD it gives everyone a higher chance at a +4 tome. Its true. Healers you can test it yourself, just let them expire and you will see for yourself :D
