Yes you should. I've never seen racism in the game myself (other than Warforged vs. Halfling jokes), but you should report them for harassment, take screenshots of the conversation (unless it was voice chat).

Here is a true story...

I was in Iraq when I was in the military during the war and we got a EPW (Enemy Prisoner of War).
He had his Face/Jaw bandaged. Well later that night he had a small piece of metal removed and all of a sudden he could talk. Guess what...he spoke perfect english. He was in college before the war in the US and was called back to Iraq for the war. Well I started talking to him about football (poor guy was a Detroit Lions fan because he liked Barry Sanders). Well the more I talked to him...the more I realized how the same we were. I asked him what he wanted in life. He said...
~To meet a woman that he loves and for her to love him
~To have children with this woman
~To have a good job
~To spend time with friends and loved ones.

This sound familiar? Yeah, he wanted everything I/you want out of life. So how does this "strange guy from a strange country" desire the same thing as me/us? Easy, hes a human being. We all want the same things in life.

So next time you think that a guy across town is different from you because the pigment of their skin or their eyes...understand...they want the same things out of life that you want. You have more in COMMON with them than you think.

Anyway, I am getting off my soapbox. I just hope this post gets to one person and maybe gives them a different perspective. If it does that...it was worth the time I spent typing it.

Usually if something like that's said on VC then there's not a lot the officials can do but if 1 person makes a report it gets ignored, if 2 people make the same report it gets noticed, if 3 or more people make the same report it gets properly investigated.

Make that report; something good might come out of it. If one racist idiot gets it in the a$$ then it was worth it.

we aren't allowed to post the names of people who make racist comments on the ddo forums but then that's why my guild has a list of their names (along with all the other idiots who we auto-decline for groups and raids) on OUR website. I highly recommend other guilds do the same and pass the info on. the only place I want to see/hear that kind of garbage is in a history lesson about things used to be. it's 2010 people, I've got no time for that garbage.

All people should be tolerant of others, pure and simple. Racial hatred is heavily connected to a deep-seated fear, those people need to have the common sense to look at themselves instead of judging others.

Sometimes things can go too far the other way also... sadly some protesters against racial hatred end up letting the issue rule their lives and turning it into another form of racial hatred. Be careful if you go around waving the race card too much, or you will find yourself being a problem to society. Everything in moderation, keep the balance.

It is sad that the true meaning of words containing so much hate can be lost on the next generations.

Its been a generation or two now that has grown up with that certain word, or variations of it, bombarding them in popular culture. How much blame can be placed on the child that repeats what they have heard?

It is truly sad that they will never know, much less feel, how much hate that word....in any variation, contains.

It should be the duty of the older generations to educate them that any use, in any form, of that cetain word is completely unnacceptable.

I too have heard a ton of this behavior from players in many games. This becomes disturbing to me because when behind a microphone, these people say what they really want with anonymity.
I would also like to remind everyone that banned book week is coming up soon. I think removing books for racist content is wrong. These are the stories that teach children what life is all about. They used to show the film "roots" in my old junior high school- not anymore. There are many examples of hiding things from young people as well as the old. This, in my opinion, is a giant step backwards for our society and group intellect.

I'm aware of the rules for naming and shaming, my post was referring to the ingame report system assuming it was in a recorded chat situation but if it was voice chat which can't be recorded, then more than one player making a complaint against the same player about the same thing is likely to be taken more seriously.

Basically anything negatively racist said or done these days has absolutely no place in the gaming community or any other community at all.

One thing I had to add;

IMO, you do not get to call racism if "the N word" is used just because. It is heard on every hip-hop station, BET, and even MTV (when they actually play videos). Saying that I can't say it, but you can just because of the color of our skin is in itself discrimination and makes you look like a hypocrite at best.

Now obviosly context is everything, and you can tell in which context it is said as soon as the word leaves someones lips. When it's used in the demeaning manner, then report said person for it. However, if it is used in the same way that it is presented in mass media, then you have no grounds to report them.

Obvviously racism is just idiotic and should not be condoned in ANY form or fashion.

In real life, racism is simply a sign of stupidity and ignorance.
No matter which skin color you have or which skin color you hate.

In Game however, racism can exist to an extent and can be fun. Well, if you have a WF in the party, and you know, like know each other and stuff. I wouldn't call just any Warforged friend of mine a toaster... unless, you know, like I knew him really well and he, like, knew I was kidding.

However, at no time should a poor excuse for pronouncing either Negra(Spanish for black) or Niger(N"I"-ger, the Latin for Black or the country in West Africa) be used to describe a Drow, a dark skinned character of any race, or their player. Just as it is unacceptable when not sitting at the computer. Besides, I doubt the word would have even evolved the same manner in the fantasy world we play in. There is no Latin or Spanish origin for the word black for it to evolve from. So, it makes little sense to use it in game for any reason.

Personally, I've always assumed the 'N' word came about because some idiotic old white moron couldn't correctly pronounce a Black man's country of origin or miss understood the Latin and said the 'e' sound instead of the 'i' sound in the word. Then some idiot added an extra g after hearing it said enough times.
