Why Are guilds DOing this Opinions please

Sending their members out to smaller guilds and having them befriend the leaders to become an Officer, and when they get their chance deleting all the members out of the Guild. What does this accomplish for them what purpose does this childish behavior serve. I would like to hear all your opinions on this. I for one had this happen and have heard of a few other guilds that they have done this too, One I have never talked to any of their members, I have never had a run in with any of them for them to be angry with me our my guild, and neither did anyone in the guild for all we were concentrating on was leveling and guild membership and renown and gold for getting our guilds airship. I reported it but the game admin said they had no way to track who did it or they would have banned the culprit. I am so angry with that guild I think they should have been disbanded. I do hope that DDO will remove the delete function from officers, they should not have that power anyway IMO

First off spamming multiple forums with the same thread is a no no.

Secondly, naming specific guilds or players is generally a no no.

Thirdly, as someone pointed out in your other thread be careful whom you make an officer and these things won't happen.

Lastly, if in fact this guild is doing this sort of thing it won't last long as every member will end up being banned by the server.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but realistically, what actual evidence do have proving that it was Thief Guild other than hearsay? My kids have a few characters in that guild, and while all of my level 7-20 characters are in another guild, I have a lowbie cleric in Thief Guild that I only use when I play with my kids. I've only logged in a few times on that character in the past few weeks, but I haven't seen anything promoting the destruction of other guilds on the MoTD when I've looked at it. The MoTD messages I saw were more focused on recruitment and leveling characters.

There are all types of people in online games, including immature griefers who get their kicks by trying to destroy what other people build, or by wrecking a quest (deliberate party wipe, etc). That type of person would gain double the enjoyment by not only destroying your guild, but in assigning the blame to someone else as well. If they successfully do that, then they cause twice the damage - harming your guild, and the reputation of another. Okay, not that Thief Guild has a wonderful reputation to begin with, but I digress....

There are hundreds of people in that guild as well, and I would guess that the majority of them would not want to be associated with someone who would malevolently destroy another guild. Unless someone in a leadership position were to admit to such wrongdoing, or it was a recognizable alt of theirs, you are unlikely to ever know who really did it.

You alone have the power to not promote anyone to officer unless you know them well, and they show a level of commitment and dedication to your guild. You promoted them to officer, and you bear the sole responsibility for that. Depending on how you recruited (blind invites, spamming general chat, constant abuse of LFM panel for recruiting), there are misguided individuals who would feel justified in destroying your guild. This sort of thing has happened before on other servers, and it will happen again until such time as fine-grained controls are available for guild leaders to assign roles to officers.

I would suggest that you don't waste your time finger-pointing without strong evidence, and get back to growing your guild again. You should be able to remember the names of your key members, and re-invite a bunch of them.

I would hardly think any guild would be so stupid as to actually advertise any such underhand tactics, especially on their own MotD.
Guilds who post lfm's etc to advertise, basically take anything they can get their hands on, especially since the Guild RP system was introduced. In taking on such tactics, they are open to recruiting all manner of attitudes and personalies. I see guilds openely advertising for officers to be recruited of LFM's - that then provides a perfect hunting ground for those players who wish to take on such destructive tom foolery.

I believe the Army of Korthos guild or something similar to that was one of the first to get such harsh treatment, but such open recruitment strategies like we see now, just adds fuel to the fire.
Next thing will be guild chests being looted and players do a runner - so I guess the harsh lesson here is, be more careful who you recruit and how you go about doing it.

That said, I am sorry to hear such a nasty tactic has been used against your guild, but if your guildies have any trust in its leader then will come back to you once they realise it was a deliberate act against the guild and not something you orchestrated. That in itself may help you weed out the individual (s) responsible bu as I am not sure what proof you have tha it was said guild, i am not sure what else you can really do now.

But PM me so that I can at least be forewarned to look out for such players and be more careful about how you post details on the forums in future, its likely to land you in more trouble.

The only reason that comes to my mind is that, if the 'leader' essentially disbands the smaller Guilds, this leads to an increase of 'ronin' if you will and at least some of those might join the large Guild that you mention (or one that does something similar), thus making that Guild larger and increasing the number of members earning Renown.

Personally, I'd rather see a Guild grow because they have decent (in terms of skill and personality) players.

I don't know because I only posted this here and no where else as far as I know I only made this post here. The other post I made was in suggestions. While I feel for you OP, you have no one to blame but the leader who promoted them to Officer. Yeah it sucks but if you are going to recruit/promote people you don't know well/at all then things like this are going to happen. I would reconmend looking at your recruitment/promotion methods.

Gate, as I said earlier in your thread, maybe see this as a learning experience - consider how and who you recruit in future - guild renown is merely just a new grind but everyone gets the same thing out of it.... maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but some day... dang I need to watch some better movies :)

Build your guild around players you know and trust in game... it takes a while but guiild reputations take a long time to build and only seconds to destroy. Much the same as what has happened to you here, except it wasnt just your guild rep that got destroyed.

I think we all understand what your trying to tell us - beware their are rogues out there... (pardon the pun you guys from the other guild :) ).
Having only been stateside since Dec 09 I am yet to get to know alot of the guilds out there but unfirtunatley I have heard a few tales of this kind of behaviour but the issue is proving it and getting Turbine to look into it for the proof you need.

What I think I and others have basically tried to say is that is sucks it has happened, it should not have but at present there isn't alot you can actually do if Turbine are not pepared or not able to do anything about it.

The only thing they could do is serve you an infraction for using another guilds name and openly flaming them on here.

Although an inconvenience, I am sure it wont take long as I said to re-recruit those who got displaced - those that dont.. well your list of suspects basically got shorter - not that it will serve any purpose.

I personally only give out officer roles to players I genuenly trust and have known a fair while in game or in RL but unfortuantely with the guild RP system, many guilds have taken a speed root to renown and forgotten alot of the traditional values of a guild... each to their own, but this thread at least serves as a warning to all guild leaders.

Pretty hard for my alts to get up and leave the guild with all other 200 members..

Sorry for the OP, but how long does it take for a player to trust another? I mean making someone you just met and calling them a friend, and then making them an officer seems pretty silly.

It is sad, but sometimes it helps to have some standards/thought before making such decisions. People that ask to be officers in a guild should not be officers.

Gate - Players are actually trying to give you some advice here, which will help you get some serious answers to your thread.
Whilst you may feel a litle annoyed that some players make jest of your style of posting... it is purely just a pointer that you need only to construct your post a little better.

They refer to your wall of text - no commas, no full stops etc - just one long breathless sentence, something that a 10yr old could punctuate better tbh. This will simply turn players away from reading - so instead they either tell you straight or turn it into light humor. Either way you have taken offence to it and retaliated with some infantile replies of your own, which will only serve to further persuade others to not help or comment seriously.

All you had to do was say, apologies I'll edit post a littel to make it easier on the eyes. Thanks for the advice - then players would most liekly make more positive responses to your issue. Unfortuantely your post has simply derailed now and probably lost any serious interest in helping you further.

If you feel your being trolled or flamed etc - simply dont feed the troll, or it makes him or her hungrier... eek are there such things as she trolls.... oh wait **thinks SHREK** :D

The infantile responses that are here are uncalled for I have NO WALL OF TEXT without punctuation.I don't have any posts full of typos as yours and most everyones else's.You want to nit pick about spelling and grammar and periods instead of actually commenting on the actual issue, to me this is all going back to the idiot or idiot's that are out their deleting guild members.
SO should I nit pick about your post and how its full of spelling errors? Just for example (litle is spelled little) (offence is spelled offense) these are just a couple of your errors, their are more but I am not an infantile like some of these people who want to neglect what the post is for, seems like someone is trying To take the heat off the real issue.
I wanted to let people know this is being done and that it is not right, and that guild leaders need better tools to run their guilds.I also wanted to vent some and hear what others thought of this but instead I get responses about grammar and punctuation. I am not the one that has made infantile responses the post to which that statement was referring to has been removed or you probably would have understood that one.That was the only time I hashed back as for any other statement of mine has been in response and to the points. He is not he leader of the guild, and I don't remember anyone ever going out to remove people from other guilds... In fact I was online when it happened and my alt I was playing was kicked out of the guild by some one who is no longer an officer.
