View Full Version : State of the game?

So, as I currently see it, the current state of the game is...pitiful.
Lag everywhere, bugs everywhere, people getting ripped off, sneaky retroactive forum rule changes forcing long time forum goers off the forums, still no actual actions against trolls if they troll intelligently, pitiful updates, little information about upcoming updates(bug fixes don't count, inventory is a good step forward, give more info), etc...
If I had to be honest, I'd say this game was doing better back when we had the WDA... It was a bit more fun to play than too...

Dunno... I think different people have different experiences. During many of my play sessions I encounter no bugs or notable lag. Those that I do encounter tend to be minor. On occasion (actually this weekend), they get me killed. But it happens rarely enough not to bother me. Bugs are a constant of any software. If you're a business, and buy million dollar software to help run it, you'd think it'd be bug free, but of course you'd be wrong. For what we pay here (for many... nothing), they are pretty much expected. And getting rid of bugs would pretty much mean getting rid of new content. Super reliable software gets that way by implementing almost no change. And Lag.... lag means lots of people are playing. It may be not be fun for the one getting lagged... but if it were bad enough, many players would leave... and it would recover.
Expect perfectiton, and you'll be disappointed... every time, in pretty much every aspect of life. Compared to the alternatives, I'm actually pretty surprised how well DDO is run considering the fraction of the userbase that doesn't bring in the $$.
I'm not saying it can't be better. It most certainly can. But it could be a whole lot worse. Personally, I think the state of the game is pretty good. And the fact that DDO has been increasing significantly in market share seems to back that up.
Perhaps my job dealing with expensive crappy software with critical functionality has lowered my expectations from the cheap software with no other purpose than to keep me amused.

I suppose we are rapidly reaching some sort of critical point in the conflict between the "DDO Stormreach" and "DDO Unlimited". When it comes to the forums, Turbines' attitudes and priorities, the development of the game - all of it.

Unfortunately, rise of worth usually results in loss of quality over time as focus shifts to how much blood can be squeezed out of the turnip for the least effort when people who did not initially invent/design/build the original product step in to "improve" things.

Yep. You can only mistreat people for so long before they leave. Turbine does not understand this fact. As soon as there's a game out there which has the active combat that DDO used to have, and a dev team which doesn't actively abuse people who pay their bills, you can say good buy to DDO and Turbine.
It's just like Ubisoft. They release crappy games that punish people for actually buying the game legitimately, then complain about poor sales and blame pirates. They were in the red last quarter. I guess the MMO equivalent would be Acclaim, which came back, released a F2P MMO, then went under once more recently.

Well I'm logged in now, theres an epic OOB up, been up for a while, some seals and scrolls I want from there. Didn't get anything from the last dozen times I ran it. Think I'll pass.
I could switch to my TR. All the quests of my current level I've run dozens upon dozens of times before, but this is a TR, so it's not like I have a choice, I have to run them all. Again. Think I'll pass.
Could switch to a character off timer and join one of the shrouds that are up. Should be getting close to 40 on that character, to go with the 40s and 60s on my others. Some greensteel I want to craft, maybe I'll get a scale. Probably not. Think I'll pass.
Hmm, Star Craft. Sounds like an idea.
Thats the state of the game.
