I'm looking for some help from the good builders here in the forum about if I made any glaring mistakes or major omissions. I have been reading up a lot on the forums but the amount of information is staggering and difficult to sift through.

I've been thinking for a while to build my personal ultimate character. Its not meant to be a cookie cutter/min-max build but more just incorporating the things I like in a character. The goal is a trap and door handling dex-based ranger with decent dual weapon dps.

This is what I came up with after many hours work:

Enhancement: Ranger Skill Boost I

Change that with Rogue Skill boost I.....that way you get the boost to Disable Device.

Look up "The Exploiter" Ranger.

Then copy/paste.

That should be exactly what you are looking for.

IF you have the time. Read the thread...or read the first page or so...and then read like the last 5 pages (current).

It will identify the weaknesses and strengths of different skills/races.

I personally like human for this particular build. I will not list the differences. It has been listed about 200 times already by 150 different people.

Skill boost enhs apply to all skills, not just class skills; so take it from whichever class would let you get the most enhs - in this case, ranger.

Max UMD, Disable, and Search every level; use your remaining points for Open Lock, Spot, and anything else you want (and can afford).

For feats you'll want Toughness, Weapon Finesse, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, Imp Crit Pierce, Power Attack, and OTWF or TWD (TWB is ****). You may want to consider delaying your monk splash so you can take Imp Crit at lvl 9. Unfortunately, you don't have a feat to spare for Combat Expertise - main reason to go Finesse-based is for max AC, IMHO, and CE is important for that - but your INT is also too low for it anyway.

I have built and played a DEX-based melee Ranger to cap, when cap was 16. I'll be brief...

Build what you want, but I would generally advise you against a DEX-based Ranger for two reasons:

1) as a newer player you will not have gear for a meaningful AC beyond the mid-levels
2) you do not have meaningful Sneak Attack dice (SA dice) which is what makes DEX-based so powerful in a Rogue

In short, levels 1-12, it's great, after that, not so great.

I can relate more of my experiences if you want...
