is there a warforged melee build that can solo to 20 but also maybe contribute to end game content fairly well ?

Level 20 Pure Bard
18str+5levels/16(18)con/12cha
Feats: Toughness, Power Attack, Weapon Focus: Slashing or Skill Focus: Perform (see below), Extend, Improved Critical: Slashing or Empower Healing (see below), Maximize, Quicken
Enhancements: Max out songs (maybe not the last point of atk...6ap is a lot), max or close to max on +con and toughness, max out song magic, max out the warforged power attack line, max out the wand and scroll line.

Play style: Take buffs and heals as your spells. Make sure to take Master's Touch starting at level 1 and use the best two handed weapons you can find. Don't be afraid to wand-heal instead of healing off your bar as you'll need the sp's for buffs. Basically it plays a lot like a barbarian only you have a lot more flexibility to do other things, you're self-sufficient thanks to your buffs and wand usage, and can use your songs to control most of the big fights (especially during the virtuoso levels).

I recommend running as virtuoso for a few levels (I did from 6-12) which is why you would take Skill Focus: Perform instead of WF: Slashing. If you get an (epic) sword of shadows and/or a min2 as your main weapon you might be able to afford dropping IC: Slashing to fit in all 3 of the casting feats. That will constrain what weapons you'll want to use and lower personal dps a touch but greatly improve your healing ability.

Level 20 Pure FvS
Stats: Emphasis on Str/Con, Wis as a dump stat

Don't have a feat/enh layout for this one as I haven't played one past 6 or 7 but basically the same idea. You make sure you can perform acceptably as a healer (quicken/empower/maximize in this case), make sure you get power attack/toughness, probably take extend, and then grab Adamantite Body for your last feat. Mass cures will have a lot of punch, you'll do nice dps (especially once you have your better buffs), and your blade barrier will work well against anything without evasion (half damage will still be a lot of damage). The evasion mobs you'll just have to cut down with your great sword. And you'll have amazing dr at level 20 - I believe it's dr 15/adamantite. When you're not meleeing you can toss on a shield and shield block to get a total of about 35 dr if I'm not mistaken.

fighter18/2rog.
High str, high con, int just barely high enough to get combat expertise.
Combat expertise, improved trip, stunning blow, toughness x3, weapon focus feats, power attack, optional:sap, adamantine body to be traded out at higher level.
Skill points in umd and balance.

Can keep multiple enemies controlled at the same time with high DC on trip (and will be able to keep most opponents on their back for just over a minute with improved trip verses only 6 seconds with normal trip). At high levels will be able to blur, stoneskin, res, repair, etc via umd. Evasion.

with a hireling just about any melee can solo up to cap

the build/gear and player skill will dictate just how easy that climb to cap is

i think a wf wizard with a splash of barbarian [or fighter] and rogue would do very well. it would just take a high str, with moderate to high con and int.

in addition to self healing the build would have easy access to all the buffs that are extremely helpful to survival--like blur, displacement, stoneskin, greater heroism, and so on. plus a level of rogue would give trap skills, i just don't know how high you could get those, exactly. with 2 + int mod / level, it could work well, especially if you put level up points into int.

i might just TR my wizard into something like this eventually. the past life wizard would help with spell DCs. :)
