Can anyone help me with a build for a drow rogue that specializes in hurting things with short swords? I'd prefer a high strength build over a high dex finesse build because I'm afraid I won't do much damage against things with low strength. Any help is appreciated.

its a finesse build but it does do good dmg
people don't overly care if rogue does good dmg but they mainly care if you can disable traps and ya need dex to do that so this build caters to good dmg but still able to take care of traps
the main way rogue does dmg is sneak attacks which makes you do a whole lot of dmg if the creature is not attacking you
you can modify the weapons they have made it for to shortsword but I wouldn't suggest using any weapon on drow that ya don't get enhancement bonuses for so make sure drow has bonuses for that

Use rapiers.

I would stay pure and go 20 ROG for the better capstone.
Also..ROG are a DPS class. Ignore what the first guy said about "people only care if you open locks and disable traps." It should read "Only gimps spec to only open traps..."
You will be able to get locks/traps and stuff pretty easily with +5 Thief Tools and just keep DD and Search respectable.
There is only 1 trap in the game that takes an amazing amount skill to get and thats the "Cabal for One" trap. And it doesnt get ya anything special.
As a DROW ROG. Focus on your survivability first. The DPS is easy. Use rapiers. But put high HP/CON as a priority.
You should aim for 400 HP at level 20. So remember get your False Life/IFL/GFL items. Get your +CON items. Take the toughness feat. Take the toughness enhancements.

I have some really good low-mid level shortswords that I got with my highest level character. I just got a level 10 shortsword that has parrying and it does 1 point of strength damage every time it hits the enemy. Combined with the rogue feat I'd be doing 3 strength damage with every hit. I have a level 8 shortsword that's +2 with icy burst and maiming. I have a +3 shortsword of smiting for when I reach level 14. I got my hands on a sun blade too. I don't have any good rapiers except this one that's +1 with +10 seeker and maiming. I can't use it until I reach level 12 however. I have a +2 shortsword with holy and parrying too for level 10. The point is I have a lot of good shortswords and 1 good rapier. I would really like to have a build that uses shortswords because I like them. I would like a build that does great damage, or at least great for shortswords, and can disarm most traps. Also can anyone tell me if getting a feat that lets me make traps is worth it?

Many people recommend a high Str. Which is all fine and good.
But my low Str Drow Rog19 sees a "+70ish" number added to almost all my attacks....
Just seems to make that first number very trivial IMO.

Ok, I found that character planner online and I tried my hand at making a drow rogue. Please no flaming me and saying stuff like, "I can't believe how stupid this guy is! Noobs shouldn't be allowed to use the forums! This guy should be fired from life! I hope you and your family get in a horrible car accident and you, trapped in the wreckage, remain conscious as your loved ones burn around you!". I've actually experienced stuff like that. If any of you rogue vets can give me any advice or constructive criticism I'd appreciate it. I took skill focus: disable device because I wanted to be able to make traps.

C'mon, I need feedback and help regarding that build I just posted. I'm really bad at this.

looks pretty good.
I mainly looked at feats selected and stat distribution.
I would drop Skill Focus Disable Device. Skill Focus UMD may be better...or you you take even another toughness or find something that is generally better. A nice option would be to pump up CHR a bit and take Force of personality and really dump WIS (to the point of not even wearing a WIS item). CHR is nice due to it powering your UMD and Will save (if you take force of personality)
I would drop the INT just a little. To a base 14. I would personally raise my WIS (will saves and spot) or CHR (UMD and will save if you take FoP)
Generally you only need a total of 10 skill points (to include STR mod) into Jump. Once you get Morah's belt or have jump casted on you...you will be capped.
Also do not waste AP on Drow Spell Resistance.
Do not take the Capstone "Cheat Death". Take the new Capstone that gives bonus Sneak Attack damage.
Hope this helps.

Ok, I made a new version of that build after reading Bacab's post. The character planner version that I'm using only has the cheat death capstone so when I selected cheat death it's a placeholder for the other one.

Looks very solid to me. Stats, feats, skills... I see no mistakes, really a well rounded character.
One small thing maybe:
You will have pretty low will saves due to low wis score. I'd consider dropping one skill mastery feat and take slippery mind instead.
Enjoy!

Looks pretty solid. I'd probably got base STR 16 INT 12 - you can drop Swim and shave some pts off Balance and/or Tumble and lose very little - but that's a personal preference. I'd also rather have Slippery Mind than a second Skill Mastery; +1 to skills is not that interesting, IMHO.

From what I understand assassins need int for their powers to work so I'm reluctant to lower it to 12. I put points into swim because there's a quest in gianthold where the rogue needs to swim a long distance through a bunch of hazards and a good swim score helps with that mission. I put str at 15 because as one levels to 20 one gets 5 points to place into their stats. You only get a bonus for raising stats to even numbers and 15 + 5 = 20 which is an even number so it's perfect.

Yes, the active ability Assassinate has DC: 10 + Rogue Level + Int Modifier. So more Int is indeed nice.
But Assassin III also grants 3D6 SA dice which will work independent of your Int Mod. Unless you want to assasinate all the time and don't want to attack in the usual way, I think dropping Int in favor of Str is the better choice for your damage output.
Later on, you might have items with an exceptional +1 bonus to Str which will stack with the other boni.
Also, a +1 tome, which is pretty easy to obtain, will even out your Str value, too. So more Str is better, although sometimes it doesn't make a difference, depending on your items, if you have 15 or 16 Str. But sometimes it will make a difference as well.

I think I saw in some people's builds in this forum that +3 tomes can be used at level 20, or am I wrong? If that exists then using it when my level 20 stat point puts my strength at an odd number would be perfect. Can I buy one of those from the ddo store like the +1 and +2 tomes?

Here is another way to go
It specializes in Short Sword damage - it's a drow and has 1 or more rogue levels
http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=270200
ok, only one Rogue level - but still has UMD/Search/Disarm and a few dice of Sneak Attack

That's really interesting. I don't know hardly anything about monks. I made a monk and tried to play one but I couldn't get the hang of it. Got to level 4 I think. Is 12 enough starting base constitution?

12 Con for a drow/elf is the bare minimum. Other races should try to get to at least 14.

The +3 tomes exist, but they are raid loot which are bound to character. This way, they cannot be sold at the AH, in contrast to +1 and +2 tomes. I wouldn't count on finding a +3 tome. There are also +4 tomes, but they are even rarer than the +3 ones. +3 tomes can be used from leel 11 on, but I guess they use it only at level 20 because that is the most probable level to find one.
I have a drow ravagerish (13 rog, 6 ranger, 1 monk) build, she has also only 12 con and it's ok.

I liked 15-16-14-14-8-10 better. No need for 12 wisdom in my opinion.
You'll loose 20 hps, a maxed skill, 1 assassinate DC and only gain 1 Str and 2 will save.
