Level 20 WF wizard.

Swapping about 75% of my gear (with heighten on) causes a loss of DCs.

If heighten is turned off there is no loss of DCs, so it seems to be a bug with that metamagic feat.

Screenshots: (I made sure none of the gear I swapped should natrually affect my spell DCs)

(Banshee whail at 40DC with standard gear on)

(Swapped gloves from epic spectrals to vile blasphemy = 37DC)

(Swapped bloodstone for pendant of time = 36DC)

(Swapped bloodstone for Bauble = 39DC)

(Swapped wretched twilight for cloak of divine power = 35DC)

(Swapped Knost's belt for singed belt = 32DC)

Some gear is unaffected such as the torc and mantle.

This seems to be a serious bug with heighten; try it for yourself.

Considering the amount of work I put into my caster just to get 1 extra DC this needs to be tested and fixed ASAP.

Have you checked to make sure it's not just a visual bug? Last I recall hearing it was only visual, but I could be mistaken.

So far I've tested the epic staff of arcane power (which gives -9DC) in PVP and it does indeed give the negative in combat. Not just visual. :(

The staff of arcane power is special in that it causes all of your spells to be heightened to level 1 instead of level 9, the other instances are most likely unrelated to that one.

Unless they really did bork it in update 6... this was the same thing in update 5:

Well, in my experience it is not only a visual bug.

Sure, you might not notice a small difference in DC running shroud etc, but in epics...huge difference.

For me, it happens when swapping weapons - Going from Dreamspitter to scrolls, fire lore items etc and back...

I don't have a problem in Von epics because I just keep the Dreampitter equipped and dont scroll recon or bother to swap fire lore items in.

Last night though, I was not being lazy and had major issues landing mass holds. First in epic OOB, I could not land much at all, DC38 usually. I did not think to check the current DC while swapping weapons/scrolls, but I definitely had better luck last time.

Then in von1, end fight, I cloudn't even hold a grunt minotaur - then I checked and saw DC29 on mass hold :|
Swapped weapons and it changed to DC38 and mass hold landed pretty much 100%.

I will be submitting a bug report tonight, as will a few casters in guild. This needs to be fixed. Combined with the targeting of mass hold now, it is just too much micromanaging.

Wail of the Banshee is a level 9 spell. Heighten raises a lower level spell to the height of your highest spells.

So web, a level 1 or 2 spell, would be cast as level 9.

So it basically shouldn't have an effect on wail or any level 9 spell.

Is this the issue? Its on the U7 bugfix list in the Lam preview notes:

Items that increase caster level will no longer lower spell DCs when combined with Heighten if the caster level has increased above 20.

Ive seen my necro DC drop by simply equipping bracers of necromancy +1, un-equip, re-equip, un-equip, re-equip, ahhh now its working ;)

ah. that might explain some landing problems i had last night too. (nothing so epic though :) so maybe could be explained otherwise - i'll know to check) i am guessing it's related to some of the other items equip/unequip turns go missing bugs also.

ty highlighting this - missed it in the notes.

u say gamebreaking yet all you have to do is unclick heighten and click it back on... dunno how that is gamebreaking... this issue has been here awhile and ppl just live with it as clicking a button twice is no big deal at all...
