“… Fortune smiled upon me, for I have found many like myself: heroes from the far corners of the world. Dealers in death, life, courage… we charge into the abyss searching for the ultimate reward.” – DDO Cinematic
Today we’re pleased to welcome European DDO players to our community! We understand that there has been some confusion and frustration during the closure of the EU service. Now that we are operating the global service and can discuss these issues directly we expect to be able to provide a smoother experience going forward.
In the meantime we appreciate your patience as we work to address your concerns about the new combined service.
While everyone is settling in, we thought it would be nice to share some introductions and tips to help you feel at home.
Important notes
- We’re currently offering support in English only at the DDO community sites. We hope to begin expanding our German and French support later this year, so we thank you for your patience in the meantime! Feel free to say hello, reunite with old friends, and get to know each other in our European player forums! Click here (http://forums.ddo.com/forumdisplay.php?f=244) for French or click here (http://forums.ddo.com/forumdisplay.php?f=243) for German! (We ask that until the German and French language support is set up that all public facing communications outside the German and French forums be made in English. We apologize for the inconvenience!)
- If you haven’t taken a moment to read our FAQ about the transition from Codemasters to the global DDO service, click here (http://www.ddo.com/news/1096-dungeons-a-dragons-onliner-service-transition-faq-turbine) to check it out!
For the latest news about character transfers, click here (http://www.ddo.com/news/1215-eu-character-transfer-news)!
If you have not yet opted-in to share your EU data with us please visit https://cogaccounts.codemasters.com/ to opt-in immediately. We will have no account data for players who do not opt in and will not be able to deliver any Turbine Points or restored characters without this information.
Introductions
We’d like to take a moment to introduce our community team! Whether we’re gathering your feedback, hosting games with you, or you need help with the websites, we’re here for you!
Patience, Senior Manager Online Community Relations: “I’m Meghan “Patience” Rodberg, Senior Community Manager for Turbine. I’m really looking forward to finally seeing the North American and EU communities become one giant community!”
Tolero, Senior Community Specialist: “Greetings! I’ve been with the Turbine team since 2007, though I’ve played DDO since shortly after launch. I’m always conspiring to bring you entertaining and/or useful things. And puzzles (I’m told that I’m “chaotic neutral with evil tendencies”). I’ve always enjoyed the EU community’s contributions from afar, so it’s great to have you here!”
Tarrant, Community Specialist: “Hi Europeans! I’m your sometimes-friendly-neighborhood-community-specialist Tarrant, and I’m glad you’re here. I was born in the US, but grew up in the UK, so for the purposes of this message I’m as European as you. That means we’ll get along great, provided you follow the rules and occasionally make me laugh.”
Cloverluckyleaf, Community Specialist: “Hi my name is Clover! I conduct the Featured Player interviews, update the websites, make wallpapers, and do a bunch of other stuff. Every day is a new adventure! I love to cook and bake, and on occasion share some goodies with the rest of the team. No one has had to make a trip to the emergency room yet, so I must be doing something right!”
Frelorn, Community Specialist: “Hey everyone, I am Andy “Frelorn” Cataldo. I have been at Turbine for about 6 years now, and spent the majority of my time as part of the community team. I have been a gamer since my days with Intellivision and Atari right through to today, with various online games as well as consoles. One of the best things about my job is being able to interact with some of the best gaming communities out there, and I am looking forward to having you here with us.”
Sapience, Community Specialist: “I’m Sapience. You’ll find me mostly on the LOTRO side of things but occasionally I step in to help out with DDO when things get crazy. Some of you might have already seen me as I occasionally post on the Codemasters Forums. It’s great to have you here!”
Cubethulu, Resident Gelatinous Cube: “I’m much like my monster kin, who slide through dungeons cleaning unwanted clutter by digesting it. The only difference is I clean forum threads, digesting naughty posts. It’s probably safe to say that getting to meet me is rarely a good thing.”
We hope the links and information below are useful to you as you get settled in with us. We encourage you to explore, ask questions of your fellow players, reconnect with old friends, and get to know the features and fun available to you! Welcome to the community!
Sincerely,
The Community Team

I should also note that I've gotten questions about community forum titles that have been earned on the CM forums from contests etc. Please be sure to opt in (http://community.codemasters.com/forum/dungeons-dragons-online-general-discussion-296/422304-ddo-character-transfer-instructions.html), as this information will also be sent over for us so we can update your forum title here!

thanks for the official welcome :)
Until we receive the final opt-in list we will also not be able to link US and EU account data. We expect this process to take a number of weeks to complete as players continue to opt into the transfer process.
does this mean those that have already opted in will be transferred within days, but the 1st transfers may be a few weeks away? ie do those of us who opted in as soon as possible have to wait for some cut off time? Or will you be getting, and acting on, a daily update of accounts that have opted in?

I have a meeting in a little bit where I will be learning more information. Will bring all I know as soon as I know. My understanding at this point is that there is still going to be time for people to opt in, but we recommend people opt in as soon as possible! We don't want anyone to get left behind! Sooner is better.

ok, a few reasonable questions before it all goes down.
- what about our characters that have a favour lock, like 32 points chars, Drows, FvS and so on.
Will we be able to use them even if we can't create new ones until we have unlocked the favour again ?
or will we unable to play them until we have unlocked said favour ?
- how long will it take for those that have already opted in ? ( I know it has already been asked )
- As we are not expert on how it works, what will happen to our characters that are over the limit ?
( I know it might be already explained somewhere )
- Just so that everybody has an official response : It's possible to transfer fromGhallanda to another server right ? ( well except Orien and Cannith that is. )
Thanks for the answers in advance.

Unfortunately this is our misbehaving forum front page again. It has been having issues with any new forums' threads that are being made (the favored soul and one or two other forums also have been having this issue already). Gharet has not been able to fix it so far :( posts made will still show in the new posts button though, so at least there is that. I also managed to break then fix the dev tracker so "hopefully" posts here are showing there now as well.

If my question won't get answered, it CLEARLY means they have still NOT decided the target server yet. So it CLEARLY means your characters in Ghallandra will have been no meaning.
I CLEARLY think that I won't start to play on Ghallandra since they CLEARLY state it.
This silence means they don't want to answer this question, so you can see there is no server name mentioned in welcome message.

I had hoped for the time frame to be a little faster but hopefully the delay will allow you to look at some of the comments and suggestions regarding our proposed destination server and or alternatives for possibly a cheaper character transfer for those wanting to move from there.
Also once you have a clearer understanding of the numbers involved maybe this will help lift a few of those restrictions for people wishing to move from Ghallandra to say Cannith.

Hello, me again :)
Tolero, are you able to answer my question? Could you please tell me our target server is and will be "Ghallandra"? If not, you can just tell us it's too early to tell this.
As I said before, if you won't answer this question, I have to warn all European people who decided to stay at Ghallandra that they are under risk (they are currently playing at Ghallandra for nothing).
I've just asked "one" "clear" and "easy" question.
CM's lack of communication deja vu.

Until we receive the final opt-in list we will also not be able to link US and EU account data. We expect this process to take a number of weeks to complete as players continue to opt into the transfer process.

We have already WELL experienced with CM that "silence" means "bad things will be happen" and sometimes it means "no". So I can understand that we have no guarantee to transfer to Ghallandra.

Thank you for the most kind Welcome Tolero and team - I do apologise that some travellers made a bit of a fuss whilst you were still in bed as we did arrive with no welcome mat laid out and rowdiness ensued in your absence as we were tired and hungry.
I do hope the migration fosters a much better relationship going forward as things are ironed out over the coming weeks.

Thanks for the welcome.
I do have one question:
[I] Until we receive the final opt-in list we will also not be able to link US and EU account data. We expect this process to take a number of weeks to complete as players continue to opt into the transfer process.
Everybody received e-mails about the transfer, saying (more or less) that aug 20th was the cutoff date. So why will the process take weeks as people continue to opt in. People who have not yet opted in, obviously don't really care. So why not take the list now and let the transfers begin?
also:
I look forward to getting to know Ghallanda. (Don't really know what the big problem with that server is).
Also I am very happy with the transfer option and the ddo points.
So all in all, thumbs up.

I know this won't be popular, but is there a way you can separate the English Dev Tracker and give each language their own Dev Tracker (sort of like Lamannia Dev Tracker)?
I am sure most of the German (or French) only threads would appreciate they be kept in their native languages so they can follow any conversations as well.
I expect you are going to make the important announcements in each language, so the Dev Tracker is going to be full.
Also, there should be some sort of "acknowledgement thread" for anything official (such as "WAI", "This is a known bug", "we are working on it") that is then translated to all relevant languages so no one is missing out! I don't expect the actual devs to do it, but the 'Known Bugs" is just too short because it misses the good details from the devs that usually explain why as well as their comments about it.
Hi Welcome

Some more info for folks as I try to cover as much ground as I can here:
VERY IMPORTANT! Make sure that if you haven't opted in yet at CM you do so immediately! We can't really speak to what may have been said in the CM emails as far as deadlines, but if you've not gone to opt in for character transfer please visit the CM account site and do so immediately (https://cogaccounts.codemasters.com/). If you know of someone who may not be aware that they need to opt in to get their characters transferred, please tell your friends and help spread the word, as the opt in will only be available for a limited time. I can't stress enough that without the opt in we're unable to deliver the free points or connect you with your characters, so please opt in at the CM account site (https://cogaccounts.codemasters.com/).
The change over of service has a lot of moving parts, so I'm still gathering info about character transfers; I should have more info on Monday for you in terms of time frames and so forth. One thing that is most definitive is that Ghallanda is indeed the destination server. I've also seen some confusion around this, so I'll reiterate that: any account-wide features you may have purchased already (e.g. veteran status, 32 point build, character slots, content packs) are multi-server.
I also wanted to take a moment to thank players - both present and newly arrived from CM - who have already been helping their fellow players as we begin a new chapter as a community together! We'll bring more information to this thread as it is available. Thanks for your patience!

Tolero i have asked this a few times now and you contiue to dodge.
Will Turbine offer a better deal than the $25 a toon to transfer servers?
I have played since beta, I was day one early start up and have been a paying customer (2 accounts) ever since. When EU was dying, I desided to gather'd up my friends and guildies and come to the US 6-8 months ago (whilst most of us, were still paying our EU sub). Our guild and friends has grown and found good roots in Thelanis.
Please, Please, Please dont ask us to up-root again, be fair and sort out a fair transfer policy, with a fair price

Tolero,
please note, that on Thelanis is the biggest german guild so far /Zeugen der 13/ with about 600 Charakters. Its really unfair to transfer the older charakters of all these people to another server and force them to pay lots of money so they can play with the german community on thelanis in the future.
We would appriciate that transferal to thelanis would be free, if its necessary to choose Ghallanda...

Err, Tolero have you got some answers to my questions ( or places where I need to look for the answers ) :
- what about our characters that have a favour lock, like 32 points chars, Drows, FvS and so on.
Will we be able to use them even if we can't create new ones until we have unlocked the favour again ?
or will we unable to play them until we have unlocked said favour ?
- As we are not expert on how it works, what will happen to our characters that are over the limit ?
( I know it might be already explained somewhere )
- Just so that everybody has an official response : It's possible to transfer fromGhallanda to another server right ? ( well except Orien and Cannith that is. )
The one I removed has just been answered by your post. :)

Hi Tolero,
many players left DDO Europe last year and had no chance to clear their shared account or distribute it to the personal bank.
As soon as I read that perhaps the shared account items are not transfered it was not possible to buy a subscription in europe any more. So I ask just for the possibility to get the items from the shared account or distribute them to personal bank before they are all lost...
please be so kind, because much time was invested to get them...

sorry to inform you, but Tolero and devs have allready stated that shared banks and TR cache's are lost in the transfer. They don't have the tech to transfer it across sadly.

I can imagine it must be a very busy time for you and everyone else at the office, I would just like to say a very big thankyou for making the transfer of our EU characters to the global service possible. Although you won't be able to please everyone and a few will be downright upset, I for one, only see this as a bonus that is completely unlooked for. I also realise that a lot of people have various questions that they would like answered, it may not be possible to answer them all, but if the main ones could be answered, then perhaps the moaning and whining will cease a little.
The EU community was at the very least quite upset with the way we were treated over the last 18 months, what with NDA's, the super secret and the 'soon (tm)' :p
So, anyway, enough of this, thanks for the warm welcome (even though quite a few of us have been here months) Here's looking forward to some good news on Monday.

Could i please ask Turbine:
Is it true that now that the two new servers, Cannith and Orion have come of age that it will now be a priority to allow transfers to these servers for people with existing accounts at the very least?
Is it true that the database ( our DDO EU accounts) simply have to arrive somewhere (ghallanda) and that this is simply a stop over whilst organising the reunion of these accounts with their rightful owners on the servers where they have already become established?
Is it true that VIP status will guarantee VIP treatment in this respect?
I hope the answers to these 3 questions is yes
Personally, i opened a turbine VIP account when cannith was launched, i continued to pay VIP subscription on Devourer until about 3 months ago even though i didnt play on devourer after mod 9, i have 6 level 17 characters that i would dearly love to play again. I have only one lvl 20 character on cannith and one 19, my game time has been much less than i would have liked this past year due to personal commitments. I dearly miss my bard, my ranger, my fighter and of course my mages but i have grown 2 mages as they are my first preference. If i had to choose just one character to keep it would be my bard, and theres such a shortage on cannith ;)
I really cant see any valid reason for preventing transfer to any server, you can only play one character at a time, infact these "older characters" would even out the newer servers so that they would all be equal in many more ways than they are at this moment in time.

it's not the answer you want, but sadly it's the situation as it is.
The situation is that the character transfer tech only transfers your character, inventory, bank, and personal favour, personal favour rewards (bank space, backpack) and quest completions. Shared bank and reincarnation cache and server-related rewards (32 points, veteran, drow, FvS) are not transferred by the tech.
The data for the shared bank contents *does* however still exist -- so for those of you who did not have access to your European accounts, the only possible chance that you might have would be to try and convince Turbine to perform shared bank inventory recovery from the European database as an EXTRA task. :(

One thing that is most definitive is that Ghallanda is indeed the destination server.
I'm not one to complain easy, but this thing really dissappoints me. I play on US Servers since the start of DDO Unlimited and I never believed you would ever transfer the Characters we had there, so I didn't even look back once .... until you teased us 4 weeks ago. I was really excited since I hate playing clerics through the low levels, and I expected to get my old one and some more interessting chars and equipment back. But now I'm more dissappointed than I was befor, because now my characters will sit on a Server where I won't play, since I got 7 (actually 6 since one is TRing atm) capped toons on Argonessen and a guild I founded with some friends there.
The 5000 TP will be great, but honestly, did you really have to tease us with the characters, when you do such a stupid thing with them? A friend of mine even bought loads of character slots just so he would have enough space for his old characters .... quite a waste of money now ....

Thanks very much for the warm welcome :)
And why hasen't the cube come here yet to eat something and say hello? ... we love the cube mmmmmmmmmm

It’s probably safe to say that getting to meet me is rarely a good thing.”Wow, it's a shame that I've never seen half of those people before, are they new?

Assuming that the powers that be need some kind of 'payment' for transfers - could you change the transfer system to allow either cash or for patron points to be used to cover the cost? Whilst it wouldnt allow people to transfer all their characters it would allow for some of the their favourite ones to be transfered and they could use some/all of the 5000 patron points theyre getting to transfer. Course im sure there would be obstacles but given how much I've forked out for patron points when i transfered over to save some time I'd really rather not have to spend more money to get my characters transfered to my guild's server.
LIke many here I've been with DDO since the very beginning, actually joined the forums about 18 months prior to the game launch :) And whilst I'm not going to quit over this it would be good to see my old characters back in the guild. I appreciate the gesture in transfering us at all but hmmm consider it icing on the cake if we could transfer to other servers at some kind of discount or using patron points to do so.

Former EU players should not expect any e-mail from Turbine in the short term as we have not yet received the list of players who have chosen to share their data with us.
Until we receive the final opt-in list we will also not be able to link US and EU account data. We expect this process to take a number of weeks to complete as players continue to opt into the transfer process.
Sorry to be causing trouble the moment I get here but please could I ask for some clarification on the points above considering Dnote has stated that the first list of opt-ins was sent on Friday. Is there some reason why we have to wait for a 'final' list before our precious characters are brought out of limbo? Thanks.

Because turbine doesn't want to do the same job twice....
First list received, chars from that list are extracted from backup, converted to DDO:U and loaded on Ghallanda.
Second list received ( second list = first list + new opt-ins ),
need to remove the opt-ins from the first list so that I won't reload their chars at the same time.
need to make sure that the previous process was done right.
extract chars from backup, convert to DDO:U and load chars on Ghallanda.
the char loading can happen only during a maintenance window, maintenance window is Monday morning US.
Time is too short for Friday sent list to be parsed before first maintenance window. Next maintenance window is on the 30th August, second list will probably have been sent by then, why bother doing the job twice... wait for second list on Thursday, extract and convert on Friday, Load on Monday. Put a reminder to opt-in ASAP, so that second list is as full as possible and no third list will be needed. Simple.

transfers to lammania do not require that the server be taken down, although I agree it would be good practise to wait for such a maintenance window for these bulk transfers ;)

The question was aimed at Turbine really but...
Because turbine doesn't want to do the same job twice....
Then why not let us continue to play on the Eu until the actual opt-in cut-off date so we are not stuck with nothing to do?
why bother doing the job twice...
To let us have our toons back before x weeks / months have passed?

I don't really know whats happening or what will be different playing on Turbine servers compared to Codemasters servers.
If all our toons go and transferred to a particular server can users not then transfer their toons to a preferred server.
Is there a charge for moving toons to another server.
My suggestion would be all the EU toons moved to a particular server and then Turbine allow user to move characters to whatever server they wish..
Please ignore my ignorance on the whole thing I need to read up on it all.
Looking forward to playing with you all

Yes there is, $14.95 per character as things stand but we're hoping for a bulk discount which is being looked into.
It's our suggestion too and is also being looked into and in theory it's very possible.

There are restictions that characters cannot be transferred to Cannith nor into Ghallanda from other servers

Well to be fair to Codemasters they had to wait from their Turbine and Atari partners before able to say anything official about processes outside of standard server operations.
With Atari and CM now out of the chain the decision making and communication should be vastly improved.

We understand that, but in this case it wasn't information...just a wave and acknowledgement that we had been heard and people were on it...CM never did that. It doesn't take much to say, "hey we're here and working on it".
As a manager I want feedback, even if it's to say something isn't ready yet. My clients want updates....we never got any of those. We just got a copy and paste from Turbine's website when something happened.
EDIT: I'm not opening any can's of worms here..I'm just saying it's a breath of fresh air and a relief to know the situation is different. Whatever the case may be, I'm happy our info is firsthand now and I'm happy we have interaction.

Hi everyone! We wanted to update the thread with the latest information available:
Remember: if you’ve not yet opted in via the CM account site, please do so immediately by clicking here (https://cogaccounts.codemasters.com/)!
We are aiming to have character transfer services to Ghallanda available before the end of September.
We do plan to have full French and German language support for DDO at a later time as well.
More updates will be provided as they are available, so thanks for your patience everyone!

Sorry, could you clarify this one please, does this mean:
1) The standard US server transfer service will allow transfer from other servers to Ghallanda (i.e. Ghallanda is taken off the restricted list), or
2) The EU character transfer to Ghallanda will be available (hopefully).

So that makes another question more or less answered :
just that left in the limboes more or less :
- what about our characters that have a favour lock, like 32 points chars, Drows, FvS and so on.
Will we be able to use them even if we can't create new ones until we have unlocked the favour again ?
or will we unable to play them until we have unlocked said favour ?
- Will transfer to Ghallanda be possible once our characters are here to allow those that had started fresh on another server to bring their characters in.
From what I've read all over the forum it seems that our 32 point chars, Drows, FvS will not be playable until we unlock/buy the relevant favour, but can you confirm ? ( a simple yes will be enough :D )
Answered ( from my first post in page 1 of the thread :
- Transfer from Ghallanda to another server ( except Cannith and Orien ) : Ok, and fee/sale/whatever under discussion.
- Characters over the limit ( that is over 2, 4, 10 ) will be unavailable until char slots are bought/earned.
- Our Character will be there before the end of September.
Oh, and thanks for all these answers, it's nice to actually get answers, even if it's : you have to wait a bit, we are discussing it.

Yes, but I will detail it anyway :)
So favor is more tricky, and all indication is that it works like the following (VIPs go through a similar experience if they perform a downgrade):
- If there is a race/class/feature that you don't have unlocked through either Favor or the Store, you can't access the character until you do one or the other of those things.
- If you have a character that already talked to Nyx to unlock the race/class/feature, Nyx won't talk to that character again (he thinks he talked with that character already even though you are on a new server).
- If one of your other characters has high enough favor, but hasn't talked to Nyx to unlock the race/class/etc., then you can use that character instead to unlock things
- Anything that was unlocked via the DDO Store already (favored soul, drow, 32 point build, veteran status) will still be unlocked across all servers on your account. You're also able to do so at a later time if you like.
- Will transfer to Ghallanda be possible once our characters are here to allow those that had started fresh on another server to bring their characters in.
We're still looking into this. Once transfer to Ghallanda from an existing US world becomes available again, we will make an announcement.

A month is just slightly over four weeks. It's well within the range of what could be accurately described as "several weeks" (several is defined as "being of a number more than two or three but not many"). If they wanted to give the impression it would be done in two or three weeks, they would have said "in a few weeks" instead.

Renames are handled by the following process:
If the name is already taken, your character will have the name with a -1 (or -2, -3, etc) on it. You can type a text command to change to a new name you would like. The text command is
/rename newname
(Replace "newname" with the name you would like).
Now in the case where some of you had placeholder characters to reserve names, you should be able to just delete the placeholder if it ended up taking the name by accident, and then rename the -1 character to the proper name.

The reason so many of us are actiing surprised at the delay is because we were mislead by Codemasters.
Here are some snippets from their announcement that we were transferring to Turbine, at http://community.codemasters.com/forum/dungeons-dragons-online-general-discussion-296/420125-service-transition-faq-betreiberwechsel-faqs-faq-sur-le-transfert-du-service.html
Who will be running the European Dungeons & Dragons Online (DDO) service?
Turbine will operate the global DDO service, including Europe, starting 20th August 2010.
When can we log into the Turbine European DDO service?
Players can access the Turbine global DDO service to create a new account beginning 20th August.
How do I play DDO moving forward?
You may continue to play your current DDO Europe character on the Codemasters servers until 19th August 2010. After that time you will no longer be able to access your Codemasters account.
To play the DDO global service, you can go to www.ddo.com and create a free DDO account. By following the character transfer opt-in process that will be detailed in a later email, you will be able to move your current DDO Stormreach characters to your newly created DDO Unlimited account, and receive 5,000 Turbine Points as a thank you from Turbine. These points can be spent in the DDO Store to add adventure packs, character slots to your account, and much more.
Every single player I know read the above to mean our characters would be transferred on the 20th. The key word was 'newly' in "you will be able to move your current DDO Stormreach characters to your newly created DDO Unlimited account". We even discussed in-game how impressive it was that the transfer was going to be so quick, and at no point did anyone express any doubt that we had read it wrong.
Now we realise that we were mislead, once again, by Codemasters.

Yeah Turbine and CM knew this transfer was coming up but what could have been done.
It takes time I presume for the Data and our details to be backed up and restored. I'd

There were a few posts kicking around on the EU forums urging caution, that things probably wern't going to be as easy as some of the forum dwellers would wish.

CM never said or implied that the 2 things would happen at the same time. They purposefully never gave even a vague timescale as to when the transfer would happen.

I have to disagree there. CM clearly stated that everything would be out of their hands by the 20th. Turbine was who failed to provide information here with the "to be defined at later date" in the most important questions. And besides, how did you and "Every single player I know" infer that those words from CM meant that you would be playing in the US servers by the 20th?
Also, CM said the would ship the whole database to Turbine so that they could handle the transfer. Again, Turbine failed to provide information.
Turbine has it's responsibilities in the expectations themselves created... CM delivered what they said!
Don't be fooled, imo Turbine has more participation in the 1 year mess we had in DDO:Europe than it may seem. The problem is that it's hidden because CM and Turbine still "have" to maintain good relations because of LotRo.

Just to correct - whenever you say CM in the above paragraphs it was actually a joint announcement by CM and Turbine (http://www.ddo.com/news/1096-dungeons-a-dragons-onliner-service-transition-faq-turbine)on the same day and using info supplied by Turbine who arranged for the service transition.
Not that it helps now, but I did raise the fact the FAQ stated only that players could log on to the free service on the 9th (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=3184108&postcount=221) so only looking closer you start to think about specifics of the transfer.
Had I receieved a response I would have notified CM forums members.

Smitey,
Agreed it was a joint statement by both CM and Turbine. I was reply and quoting Zadkiele whose original post included snippets from CM's statement.
Either way no matters who's statement you read any timescales (aside from when the EU service stopped) are from a assumption on the part of the reader.

The problem is that the announcement terms were vague enough that almost everybody ( and I'm sure I'm talking for more than the guild I'm in ) understood it the following way :
Servers are shut down on the 19th, On the 20th our chars are on the US and we can go back to playing as if nothing happened.
Now having a database migration planned in October at work... said migration ( moving from one version to another on the same system ) taking in itself 35 hours ( just the DB migration, not the preparation... the preparation starts next week ) I knew that it was impossible to have the characters cross the Pond in a day... but truly, I wasn't expecting several weeks... I was expecting several days.
Anyway, being a low level untwinked 28 points character is... Interesting. *grins*
Another important thing is that the statement was written by English speaking people as mother language... while a good chunk of the EU has another language as mother language. This might have led to the misunderstanding.
And last, Players, like us, are always very demanding on the staff. :D
Especially when we are in limboes like right now. :D

Renames are handled by the following process:
If the name is already taken, your character will have the name with a -1 (or -2, -3, etc) on it. You can type a text command to change to a new name you would like. The text command is
/rename newname
Ghallanda is 4+ years old now and has already undergone a server merge. The number of taken names is probably pretty insane. Is there any chance you can run a some sort of name tokenizer on the Ghallanda database with strict limitations on the current accounts to free up some names that most likely wont be used again?
Say strict ANDed requirements of:
-Account hasn't been used in 1.5 years
-Rename all characters of said inactive account below level 10 to renamedtoken-[4 digit alpha+numeric serial number] - give character rename token.

I am more interested in this line.
How much is a World Character Transfer?
A DDO World Character Transfer is 24.95 USD.
If or when they allow us to move our chars to Orien from Ghallanda, will it cost us money to do so?

Short answer : Yes, 25$ for each character. ( that is if they allow a move to Orien )
Long answer : they are eventually considering things for us EU to relocate from Ghallanda.
That doesn't means that they are going to to open closed servers or changing the price, they are just
considering possibilities at this time. So until further notice the short answer applies.

Yes, but I will detail it anyway :)
tenalfel, from a post at the Codemasters forum, still apears to be worried about his 32-point toons ; so while there's nothing in your post to correct, it's all accurate LOL, there is something that does seem to need some more clarifying in the minds of some Euro-gamers :
So favor is more tricky, and all indication is that it works like the following (VIPs go through a similar experience if they perform a downgrade):
- If there is a race/class/feature that you don't have unlocked through either Favor or the Store, you can't access the character until you do one or the other of those things.
...
- Anything that was unlocked via the DDO Store already (favored soul, drow, 32 point build, veteran status) will still be unlocked across all servers on your account. You're also able to do so at a later time if you like.
The 32-point build feature is the ability to *create* a new character with 32 instead of 28 points, but 32-point characters who are transferred to a server where 32-point builds have NOT been unlocked may still be *played*.
There have NEVER been any issues with people being unable to play their 32/34/36 point characters on Lammania, after transfer there from live.
The ability to _play_ a 32/34/36 point character does not need to be unlocked (all that you need is to have been able to *create* such a character in the first place, which is a different kettle of fish).
Can you please confirm this specific point ? Some people are seemingly still worried about it... :)

so it seems we will have no chanches to move our chars to a serv different from ghallanda, and we'll have to pay $25 for the transfer of each toon to a diff server, once there. A lot of money for turbine :)

lol I would suggest waiting to see the outcome. I know that Turbine realises how irritated we will be if they don't give us some better option than paying per character. We've done our rants and now I think we should give them the option to do what's best......
Now the pessimist in me is demanding some sort of paper trail giving me the bottom line so I can prepare for it......I would at least like to see, if they do intend to make us have to pay for a transfer, some sort of negotiation or deal for us that we can opt into before the transfer finally happens so that when our characters do hit live servers, we don't have to then wait another 1-2 weeks for our characters to be transferred again to our server of choice.
If they are going to offer us the service for free then I don't mind waiting. I want my characters on Thelanis as soon as possible so I can start putting into motion all the plans I have for them and settle down officially. I thought I was settled but then I realise that certain characters I have never remade purely because I had a little faith I would see them again :p

At the endo of the day Turbine and Codemaster are different companys. CM had the License for DDO in Europe.
I don't think Turbine are oblige to transfer toons if they don't want to but they are.
Before the official announcement, some players had moved to US servers not expecting DDO EU to shutdown so no one was expecting any characters to be moved over, but now all of a sudden an announcement was made and everyone is up in arms over it because they are not been moved to a server they want. Just be grateful that Turbine are moving our characters over to US servers.
I admit I only moved over in the last few weeks because of the move, so its no big deal to me, and I do understand why other user are frustrated on US server and want your characters on particular server but unfortunately not everyone is going to be happy...

the problem is that having my euro chars on ghallanda, or having them not transferred at all, is almost the same thing. So for me , the transfer is totally useless just except for the 5k tp.
I will never play 2 servers and for sure i am not gona spend money for the us transfer; this is the point of view of about all the euro players i think. What i can.t understand from turbine is this one way choosen: or this , or nothing.
We are not like items that you can to move from an inventory slot to another cause of space problems. We are people with a mind and we have friends on different servers , a guild waiting for us , and most of us already have toons elsewhere.
I am not blaming anyone, i am sure the devs will find a solution for us . . Let's just wait. But if will be no solution , then imho will be really an epic fail

The thing is that while almost everything about DDO is just virtual (just a game if prefer to put it like that) the time spent playing it is all too real! (as are the people you meet and the friendships you forge for that matter)
The nature of a MMORPG is that it drags you into spending time playing to build up your characters.
What CMs and Turbine have done is commendable in general and rather dodgier on the specifics. I don't think it is fair to dismiss ppls frustrations as petulance
That is to say that one minute we're looking at losing everything, next we seem to be saved with some luverly TPs thrown in to boot. Then many of us end up losing a lot of hard ground items due to bad luck/timing and the much anticipated introduction of our old much loved toons AND our old friends from Keeper/Devourer to our new friends and guildies on our DDO:U servers looks like it will be prohibitively expensive!
The challenges of this migration are reasonably predictable, CMs could have done things better re letting us sort out our banks/TR caches etc before they made statements that made it illegal for us to resub. Turbine would have known that a lower population server was the best port of call for the migration. So perhaps hints to that effect could have been circulated months ago. Even if that might have run foul of the CMs/Atari/Turbine legal wrangles as it is was so clearly going to be an issue a solution should have been arrived at in principle ages ago and made known with the intial announcement.
I guess what I am saying that if you are trapped on a desert island it is churlish to get too annoyed with someone who goes out of your way to send you food but naturall to get a bit irritated when they forget to include any tin openers to get at the food!

My gut feeling on this is that yes if you had more than one account it would be treating each of those accounts as an individual. Granted those points would apply TO those accounts, rather than pooling into "one" account. Same with the characters.... an account would be created and all the characters that are associated with that account go with it. I will double check though to be sure. (I can't imagine a reason it wouldn't work this way, but no sense not verifying).

Seeing as you are /poking the techies, could you please ask them about naming? I think many of the names of active players transfering in are taken by players on inactive accounts that haven't logged on in the last several months judging from MyDDO. either that or putting a -k or -d behind our names instead of -1,-2 would be really nice.

Hi Tolero,
Thx for the brief update. I posted the following in a thread yesterday. But reposting here in case any chance of an answer to some of the below:
A few questions that I know many of us Euro's are eagerly awaiting answers to.
1) Any chance of an update as to when we can expect the transfer process to begin? I know you have said by the end of September, but be nice to hear how things are developing, and any update as to an actual date you are working towards.
2) It is quite disheartening watching the 50% off promotions pass us by. For example, I am hoping as I have multiple characters over 2500 fame that I will not need to use TP's to unlock 32 pt buy, favoured soul, etc, etc. As hopefully I can use a different character to unlock those once again. But if for any reason that does not work, am going to be really disappointed not to have been able to use my VIP points to take advantage of the 50% offers currently going. Yes I know if I buy now it unlocks for all servers, but I will only ever play on Ghallanda so... *shrugs*...would be nice to know if our transfer will be complete in time to benefit from any of these 50% offers. Or indeed if the scenario I describe above would definitely allow me to unlock 32 pt buys, favoured soul, etc. Even if all my alts have spoken to Nyx at some time, although only 1 would have done the actual unlocking.
3) Is there any chance of an explanation why this process cant be done in phases? So those of us who have already paid for the 6 month subscription, and are (not so) patiently waiting, can start playing asap. And then a 2nd phase of account transfers could be done in couple of months time, when all the stragglers "opt in" for the transfer.
4) I asked on the International forums, but no answer. Will the TP's granted for achieving certain fame thresholds be earned by our alts when we first log on to our new server. Or is the 5000 award all we should expect. Totally understand if that is the case, but if every imported alt will get some TP's for the fame they have achieved, will be a really nice boost and take some of the sting out of missing the 50% promo.
5) Any update on the chance of a discount, or some other compromise, for those desperate to transfer to Thelanis or other such servers. Doesnt effect me personally, but is a major concern for many Euros.
Any answers very welcome,
Thanks,
Sirac
