View Full Version : Why is the armor so **** ugly?

It's one of my few gripes about the game. The armor doesn't need to look good by any measure, but is it possible for it to not look bad? Like the one I'm wearing now. It looks like I have teeth on my crotch, like I'm wearing a bib, and from behind it looks like I'm wearing a denim diaper.
Ah, well, at least the rest of the game is good.

lol. You know, I have to agree with this. I ran around looking like Magneto for quite a while

Could be worse, all of the armor could look exactly the same... oh wait.

At higher levels, he will get to see all the variety available for Dragontouched armor.;)
It is unfortunate though that we still are not able to change the appearance of our armor in any way. (aside from swapping for a useless, but nice looking set.)

lol agreed
though I really hate it when you have a nice set of armor, then you upgrade (say from +2 to +4) and it looks like a hand-me-down version that has been sitting in a sunken boat for 3 years >.>
I can understand the concept of 'the better the equipment looks the better it looks' but it definatly is not the case :\
a choice in cosmetics when you first get your armor would be a nice addition =)

I'm not sure I follow, unless you're trying to confuse, in which case I completely understand

I know that every time my fighters or clerics buy +2 or +3 (I don't remember which) armor off the AH, I cross my fingers and pray I don't get that weird, fugly purple plate suit. :D
I still haven't quite figured that one out......

End game armor is mithral plate. Its the same exact armor but they change the color and added some detail but the same Mithral plate design is there. Old skins are part of the game when your dealing with MMO's. However, no thought was put in to making armor and equipment unique by sections....early,mid,end,epic. Instead its all the same armor with different color and some art strokes. I watched some epic raid screenshots the other night on these forums and the whole group looked like characters ive played at lower levels.

There are solutions. Go buy a very pretty or ugly hat. This can keep many people from ever noticing how ugly your armor is. Or buy a nice robe. A much more colorful option, especially when combined with one of those hats I mentioned.... ;)

Actually, as I've mentioned before, lower level game actually looks MUCH more awesome. Such diversity.
I log on my 20's, and all I see is DT/Icy/DS wielding GS with a minos on top.

I was chatting with a guildie last night who just leveled his WF monk up to 18. He decided to pull the Quorforged Docent of Battle out and slap it on. He had forgotten how bright the pink was on it. He said "I can't have my WF monk looking like an usher at a bad Las Vegas wedding chapel." So, even if it is unique and different, it can still be ugly as hell.

Now here is the real arse kicker of all this: Implementing player controlled color change on gear is extremely elementary and can be put in a small patch. It is literally as easy as creating dye tubs.

Personally I'd love to see armor, robes, headgear and weapons that match the Eberron setting instead of generic MMO armors (and dye pots would be great as well). Things that look like the artwork from the PnP books....
Veiled headgear/helms (check out the images of the Valenar elves), quivers (If it CAN be on NPC armor there is no reason it can't be on player armor), cloaks, weapons shown on your back or waist when sheathed....
I could go on and on...
I'd love to see the artwork team get a chance to implement some of these suggestions but....we'll see....

End game armor is mithral plate.
It's more accurate for this game to say that end game armor is robes. Very few characters will be wearing Mithral at 20 and the few that are wearing plate will likely be wearing Dragontouched or something epic.

I have Calvin Klein working on my armor with a Giorgio Armani cloak. I have Timberland working on some new boots.
