Weekly Guild Leaderboard Excel Exports

[EDIT] drop.io vanished at some point so the old exports are currently unavailable. I'm thinking of starting this back up again and I still have all the exports from August 2010 onwards so I'll sort out alternative hosting soon.

This is a continuation of what I started here http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?p=3177002 . I’m crawling the guild leaderboards and spitting out lists into excel. This should provide an easier way to analyse what’s going on in the game with guilds.

I’ve not heard anything from Turbine so I’m going to do these weekly until told not to. The exports happen automatically at 8:00am GMT every Friday although it might take me a little while to actually get them posted to the forums.

Hopefully it’ll give us some idea of server / game growth over time as well as which guilds are the up and coming ones.

I’m going to try keeping them all at drop.io because if I have time I can set things up to automatically upload them without any intervention from myself. Eventually I might stick them into a SQL database for those who like to play with statistics...

Total number of guilded characters is 383957 which is up on 373388 from last week. That means in the past week 10569 characters have joined guilds! That's a lot more than I expected.

there is likely to be a huge jump in guilded characters on or after the 20th of this month.... assuming the anticipated european transfer goes without a hitch!

And..... What purpose does the guild leader boards serve? Why is anyone interested in this stuff!?!?!?!?!

I hadn't thought about that...

Last I heard most of the EU players were heading towards Thelanis so it'll be interesting to see if the total guilded characters for that server jumps up more than the others.

I just thought it might be a way of guessing at server population. I figure the proportion of guilded characters to unguilded will be similar across the servers so the total guilded characters could be an indicator of server population.

Another interesting number to look at is the total renown earned per server. Total renown earned on a server could maybe be used to judge how active players on that server are in a given week...

Pretty graphs in a post are easier to handle and under the radar when browsing the forums at work. By the time one gets home, it is time to play. Downloads at work....not a safe thing for many to try.:)

I do maintain daily charts of guild renown here (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=268181), however, they are based on the top 25 guilds on each server since I grab the data manually (the graphs are the projected first 20 guilds to reach level 50). I've been using the weekly exports for some historical data (i.e. when a guild moves into the top 25, to see what history it had), and also to do some statistical analysis on the number of guilds vs the number of members (characters) in the guilds, such as here (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=3198009&postcount=8).

By the way, the leaderboards stopped working sometime around 9/1/2010 noon PST or earlier for all guilds except Orien.

Heh, I've just been putting together graphs of Total Guilded Characters and Total Renown for the different servers. I've been scratching my head wondering why what was a linear graph has dropped off a bit this week on all the servers but Orien. Guess I know now. Any word from Turbine yet?

Would some sort of daily automated export of the top 100 from each server be useful to you? The only reason I'm currently doing weekly exports is I was worried Turbine might get a bit annoyed if I crawled the full guild leaderboard every day. Just doing the first few pages of each server probably wouldn't be an issue.

Coming from Eve I really wish Turbine would implement some sort of API for data in the game. It would be really nice to be able to get lists of guilds and maybe even the guild rosters without having to crawl webpages. In fact being able to get some form of XML output from characters on my.ddo.com would be cool too.
