Very recently, I bought Catacombs and Shan-to-Kor, in that order. They are the first two packs I've bought, and I intend to buy a couple higher level ones when I accumulate the points enough for them. Maybe Tangleroot and Gianthold.

I also want to recommend RoBi3.0's excellent guides: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=198865
They got me through a lot of initial stumbling. Additionally, check out the wiki for even more information.

Vale.

The most important pack.

It's not like there isn't plenty free to play content for levels 5-8 and beyond.

Tangleroot Gorge. I don't recommend it though, it was fun at first but every quest in the pack has you going through the same map. it got tedious fact. and i didn't really need it because i had so many free quests at that level and would have been fine with out it.

do get vale though. everyone here will tell you that.

i hear that gianthold if good to.

but the first thing i got was warforged. totally worth it.

There are two things to keep in mind. First, there are a lot of free quests up to level 10 or so. After that, there are literally a handful. Because of that many people recommend Gianthold and the Vale, with the Demons Sands as a possiblity if you have extra points. Tangleroot or Delera's are 2 high xp/favor mid-level packs that have very good end rewards.

So to reach higher levels, it's best to save for high level packs. But if you're doing TP farming, it's easier to do low level quests and having a couple of low or mid level packs can make it easier to reach 1000 favor on each server to maximise fre TP.

They're in opposition to each other, but you have to decide which is more important to you.

In all honesty I bought Shan-to-Kor first. I'm saving up for vale now, total I have all but 7 of them.

My first was Delera's. Awesome, I don't regret it.

I do regret Catacombs though - it's just dumb imo lol.

Got Catecombs first and kinda meh, just run it for favor, then got sorrowdusk and was kinda meh about it. Have not finished the series yet. Then got Giant Hold and Vale of Twighlight, too low a level to run those. Then got Demon sands and been running it occasionally. Now I'm vip so have access to everything.

I bought the Catacombs first and personally liked it (and there's some decent Undead Bane stuff at the end.) I then got Sharn Syndicate (GREAT low-level end rewards) and right after that I bought Shan-to-Kor (another one I really liked). If I were looking for a low-level adventure pack and had to pick just one, I'd probably go with Sharn Syndicate.

Delera's tomb was my first. I bought it specifically for the voice (+5% xp trinket) and was very happy with the xp but I could have gotten to 20th without it. Just make sure you have the points for Vale, Gianthold and Sands first ;)

Bought Vale and Gianthold when they were on sale (20% off) because everyones like BUY THEM FOR GEAR/RAIDS.

Leveled to 8 and wanted to see new stuff so I was torn between Tangleroot and Deleras. Bought Tangleroot in the end. Got bored of it after a couple of runs through, but the drops (collectibles) are really good and the House P favor/buffs is something I can't go without on new toons.

I will probably save up some TP and buy Deleras when it's on sale. Hopefully Vale and Gianthold will be enough for mid to high levels, although I was thinking of investing in Necro4 for the explorer/minos.

The first adventure pack I bought was Gianthold, and I bought it on sale for 20% off. I think I was running the first character I ever got to level 14 or level 15 when I bought that pack (after running f2p quests) and subsequently got to level 16 or 17 after running all the quests at hard or better, not including Crucible and Gianthold Tor.

I do not regret Gianthold as my first purchase, but the reason I don't regret it is because I subsequently got Vale of Twilight in the following 2 weeks. Gianthold is definitely a good stepping stone to get you into an appropriate level range to run the Vale of Twilight Quests, however, it is expensive even on sale and I would suggest if you are looking to immediately get one of the mid level packs; that you might consider Necropolis IV or Demon Sands adventure packs instead, along with the Vale of Twiligh adventure pack as well. Only get Gianthold if you can afford it along with Vale of Twilight when you have a character around level 13 when it will start to get more difficult going it on just F2P quests alone.

Of course, as some advice to offer - I have Necropolis IV, Demon Sands, Gianthold. Regardless of what I bought first, I don't regret having all three of these packs before the majority of other areas in the game.

Gianthold then Vale. You can get to 20 with room to spare with just these 2 packs.

I then proceeded to buy every pack that had a raid associated with it.

You really will never need additional packs until you hit the gap that is 13 or 14. Then, you go into Sands, Giants, Vale. Vale is mandatory.

If you have the extra points to spend for time, rewards, and enjoyment, Sharn's Syndicate is great at level, so are the new packs Sentinels, and Carnival.

Deleras, Sands, Vale, and maybe Gianthold, if i could only choose one of those I would choose Vale of course.

My first was Tangleroot Gorge for what it's worth.

If you are asking what packs should one get first, that would depend on what your goals and means are.

If you just want to get to the level cap for as little as possible, it's probably Vale of Twilight as you can get to a level to run it on F2P quests and ride it to 20.

If it's getting to 20 at a reasonable cost in TPs, I'd get either Gianthold and/or Sands first, then Vale (can't see buying Vale first as the others would be run first in this scenario).

If leveling isn't so important to you, do like I do and save your points for when the game gets stale and get something in your level range that reading it's review seems interesting.

I will not PURCHASE catacombs, Sharn Syndicate, The circus, Sentinels, Devil Assault, and Three Barrel Cove.

1. I bought Shan to Kor ring of feathers
2. I bought Necro I

I plan on buying Delera's(750), Necro II(350) and Necro III(350), Tangleroot(550), Sorrowdusk(450), Gianthold(950), Desert(850), VON(750), Restless Isles(550), Shroud(650). Must haves are gianthold, desert, and Shroud for me. Just waiting for the sale to come on.

I might purchase Inspiration Path, Reaver's Reach, Dreaming Dark, and Devils of Shavarath if I have the points.

I echo this. Sharn Syndicate is fun all the way around. That the reward items are bound to the character upon acquisition is a bit odd and a bother, but they are good to have at low to mid levels and the adventures in the pack are fun.

The first pack I bought was Three Barrel Cove. It was fun the first time through, but I hardly go there at all lately.

I like Sharn Syndicate. I like Tangleroot Gorge. Bought a ton of other packs that I have only partially explored, so I can't really comment on all of them.

My first was the Catacombs. I was really low and if I didn't have help I would've gotten my but kicked.

But I have VIP now so I don't have to buy them anymore. I don't even use the points that I have, don't really know what to use them on.

Tangleroot is good because it has nice bound to account twink gear that you can use on many different toons. I recommend it for low levels.

Deleras is also great for carnifex and the voice of the master, which lessens the grind to 1.9 million xp and even more so if you TR to 3.1 million xp. Deleras also has a ton of xp in it. So you can get several levels farming deleras 2 and 4.

Sharn syndicate is a fail, as is catacombs.

At higher levels, gianthold is great for leveling as is the vale. If you want to play any end game you need the vale.

There are several other threads like this. And I think there is a good guide to AP's somewhere already put together.

Fairly certain it is bound to account, as I've been passing the nicked stuff to twink my lower lvl toons. Prefer Sharn to catacombs for sure.

IMO:
Lower lvl stuff worth getting, in order of priority: Delara, Tangleroot, Sharn/STK - the rest isn't really worth it, although you can get some good stuff in the latest new quests for epic.

Midlevel stuff worth getting, in order of priority: Gianthold, Desert, Necro IV, the rest is just gravy

High level stuff: Vale first, then pretty much everything else to do raids, etc.

I bought gianthold first.. mainly because around level 11-12 the only thing left was 2 quests in ataraxia. That got boring. I bought GH, and it was like an massive new area opened for me. I leveled to 16 or so there, lots to do, see, explore, etc. From that point it was on to the Vale.

But GH definately. There's plenty of f2p quests up til that point.

I bought tangleroot first.

If you run tangleroot on hard and Info is key on elite you get 78 favor which is enough for House P buffs. P-buffs make low level play tolerable.

It's also a lot of XP and bound loot including the only death ward clickie in the game (min lvl 5).

...Then Deleras for voice and XP.

I bought three barrel cove first.
Very nice quests in my opinion but rewards and experience are far from great.

I'd recommend vale first if you're on a tight budget because you can get there with f2p and shroud crafting gives you very decent gear. It also has enough xp in it to get you to 20 and the two subterrane raids which also provide nice gear.

My first was Catacombs, which I liked. It really depends on your budget though. If you enjoy the game and plan on paying a lot, it's really a great deal to spend $50 when turbine points are on sale to get 6900 points. That'll get you tons of content.

If you want to spend little/no money, you have to be very picky. Buy the packs when they're on sale. Vale of Twilight and Gianthold are top; then maybe Necro IV and the Demon Sands. If you're going to take just one low-lvl pack, it should be Delara's Tomb. If you want to spend a little more, Catacombs has some gear that helps you for Delaras (nice ghost touch weapons as end rewards). Tangleroot Gorge has some nice loot and valuable collectibles. Sorrowdusk is pretty good. Sharn To Kor is ok, but other than the ring of feathers isn't that great.

Also look for what helps your class. For example, my main is a monk. The bracers from Sentinels are great for monks, and so are Devout handwraps from Necro II (pain in the rear, but I finally got mine). The static loot rewards thread shows all the named items that can drop. Beware buying a pack just for a single drop if it's extremely rare though (chattering ring).

All of them. They just had the 6900 point sale and all packs were 20% off so I figured what the heck.

Pretty sure my first was Gianthold. I might have also bought Shan-to-kor as it was on sale. I also picked up Devil Assault on sale (I don't recommend it).

I picked up Vale shortly thereafter, and it's also totally worth it.

Packs I own:

Gianthold - get it around 12th level
Vale - get it around 15th level.
Sands of Menachturan - get it around 10th level.
Three Barrel Cove - I love the quests here, but there's no compelling reason to own this pack.
Shan-to-Kor - some people swear by the Ring of feathers (a no minimum level ring that drops here), but it's uber rare. I say pass.
Necro I - pass. Plenty of other things to do in this level range.
Delera's - if you're bored in the level 5-8 range, pick it up. Delera's has a fairly wide range of levels. Worth getting.
Reaver's Refuge - pass, unless you get bored at the higher levels.
Inspired Quarter - some of the best loot in the game. Get it for high level content.
Dreaming Dark - pass, unless you want to upgrade your high level loot from IQ.
Necro IV - I own it, but I've never been there.
Restless Isles - pass.
Ruins of Threnal - pass.
Shavarath - also some really great loot. Get it for high level content.
Catacombs - kind of fun, but plenty of quests in that level range. Good for some favor.
Devil Assault - it's a single quest in the marketplace. Pass.
Vault of Night - good quests, and a raid. Pick it up.

The order in which I would recommend you buy them:
Sands
GH
Vale
IQ (because you're going to eventually get sick of Vale)
Shavarath
Delera's (when you inevitably make a 2nd character, or true reincarnate your high level character)
Catacombs and Shan-to-kor (because they were on sale, and you wanted something new)
Vault of Night (so you could get your high level guy flagged for the raid here)

After that, it's basically a wash.

The first pack that I bought was Demon Sands. There was enuff free content to keep me going to level 10 or 11. Then our guild all bought Demon Sands and it was a great time. We are all new since April of this year and with the packs we have all bought Demon Sands was the best so far.

First was Catacombs. It was also the only pack I did not buy on sale.

Then in this order: STK, Necro 1, Necro 4, Tangleroot, Devil Assault. I got Tangleroot mostly for Fleshrender Goggles (my main was level 11 by then), but I am having fun there with my level 5 toon. Devil Assault was just a waste of 120 TP.

I expect Vale of Twilight to be next -- when it happens to be on sale.

First pack was Catacombs, wasn't on sale (IIRC) but a friend wanted to run it for the Silver Flame favor. It was... ok. I don't know that I would buy it again without it being on sale.

After that was Delara's mainly for the good XP for repeated runs and the good end rewards. One of the static rewards is Voice of the Master (VotM) which is always worth having around especially as it works in explorer areas now.

Past those, I started watching for sales on GH, Sands, and Vale so I picked those up at discount. Got Amrath at some point (don't remember when, was kind of surprised, honestly).

At lower levels, STK is ok. I really enjoyed Sharn's as it was a very welcome break from the dungeon crawls that I had repeated so many times. Also picked up Tangleroot which, while fun, is pretty much the same dungeon 5 times in a row. After that was the one for Deneith favor (darned if I can't recall the name).

A lot of people keep saying buy Vale or GH first. I completely disagree with that. Do you know how long it will be before you can use those? Personally, I bought low level packs first and loved it. You feel like you accomplish something when you buy packs. It's the carrot to keep me going.

Sharn has some of the best low level melee weapons available.
Catacombs has some great low level caster items.
TGR has great low level items and xp. Visor of the Flesh Render is very handy
Delara's has great loot too. Voice of the Master. Golden Cartouche, etc.

If I had not bought these, I probably would not still be here. They are just more fun than the free quests and more options to farm favor and test out new builds are an added bonus.

Like alot of people here the first pack I bought was Catacombs, mostly because it was very few TPs compared to alot of packs. Looking back, if I were to buy any low level pack first it would be Tangleroot Gorge. Higher level it would be GH or the Vale. I think it really depends on how patient you are with grinding favor with points, or what your budget is.

If you're patient enough to grind lower level packs for extra favor (leading to alot of extra points) I'd go with lower level packs. I used regret buying lower level adventures until I did the math and realized I now have close to 2000 favor worth of quests from spending 6 dollars on the game so far. With the favor from those quests I was able to grind enough TP for The Vale, and have enough favor available to attain veteran status, drow and FvS.

If you're not patient with grinding favor (and just want to hit level 20) I would recommend buying either the Vale or GH first. Both have great favor and will easily take you to 20 on your first character without much grinding.

Disclaimer: I'm still a fairly new player so this is just my opinion as a player who has spent a very minimal amount of money on points.

I can't comment on the higher level stuff beyond Gianthold, but from what I've seen in Gianthold so far it's no better or worse than other packs, only that it's higher level than almost all F2P adventures. What makes it good is the big outside area and the raid which are a huge source of XP. So GH makes sense if you want to level up without buying every pack available.

From the lower level stuff, very little is really needed, if anything at all, although some packs get you very useful loot (e. g. +5% experience trinket from Delera's Tomb or Deathward clickie from Tangleroot Gorge). If yu plan on creating multiple characters though, you should consider buying a shared bank rather than adventure packs. It's so much more handy to pass stuff to your other toons, and for some items it is the only way you can do it.

If you want to know which packs are the most fun, I very much liked Three Barrel Cove, and, to some degree, the Sentinels Pack. Catacombs also had an intriguing story, but the quests were somewhat tedious.

I have most of the other packs but don't consider them all that great, both for the story or playability. Some have neat loot, but nothing unique or 'must-have'. (except the Docent of Blood from Necro I maybe, or Devout Handwraps from Necro II, but unless you're playing a Warforged or Monk, there's no reason at all to get these packs) And those packs I don't have I have been explicitely advised against (except Phiarlan Carnival).

Yes, I do at least. f2p content can be run intelligently until you reach either of those pack's min levels. Like many others, I reached level 20 with solely the Vale pack and have had to farm minimally (in comparison) to do it.

Personally, I bought low level packs first and loved it. You feel like you accomplish something when you buy packs. It's the carrot to keep me going.
But then again, I had fun figuring out how to get as high as I could with f2p content. I had no problem waiting and didn't need carrots to keep playing. My feeling of accomplishment came from getting to 20 without spending more TPs than I had to. That was my goal anyway. @Doggy: It just depends what yours is.

If you also have shared bank (which I bought when it was 50% off), Tangleroot is a great source of twink gear. I bought TR when my main was level 11, and she ran the entire chain four times; in fact, fourth completion leveled her up to 12. Of the four final rewards only Fleshrender Goggles are really valuable to her, but Elf Bane greatsword and Blademaster bracers (+3 DEX) went to my level 5, and the +50 SP trinket keeps passing back and forth: whichever character I play takes it from shared bank before quest, and puts it back at the end of the day.

Sands will be the first pack I buy, followed by Shavareth (I have a yugo pot addiction). That way I can continue to farm epic tokens and +4 tomes with my capped toons while I TR Gemstone a few times.

If they ever fix the Sentinels, I'd love to get those epic bracers. At least Stryde has a bottle of air so he doesn't need to hold his breath.

And if OP is really very new, just doing his first char, very likely to drop it for something else soon - buy low level stuff. Don't consider just late / end game effects but also things like STK lowering prices in the market. Wait for a sale on some of the mentioned packs and buy it. Even more usefull is buying at least a few TP since you may use AH to earn money then.1 auction at a time isn't your day to day cash cow.

For low levels, sharn syndicate (quick xp and lvl3/4 items), stk (xp, feather ring?) and tangleroot (xp, named items) are my choice. (i don't like catacombs and it's **** xp)

After lvl6 first choice is delera's graveyard pack. (xp xp xp, nice end rewards - especially voice trinket)

After lvl7 first choice is cot6 series (i forgot adv. pack name)

Btw, every necropolis packs are good for every lever range (after 4).
